ssb interview candidates experience
It was my TGC-116 SSB interview call letter. I received one month before the ssb date. My ssb date was on 4 Oct 2012. As soon as I got my call letter. I stated preparing for it by practicing for hours in front of mirror and searching on net about latest stuff, finally the day came.

I reported Bhopal MCO on 4th of October, there i met 3 guys. They were awesome. I enjoyed there company. We all reached Bhopal selection centre by 1 noon. I was very positive about screening in, I was natural and confident in narration and was screened in with other 49 among 206 boys but unfortunately those 3 friends whom i met in station did not make through.

It was 21 SSB, my roommates were fantastic, I never met such guys in my life before. We developed great bonding in 5 days. I was now confident about my next 4 days. All those were really very passionate to join army.

1st day was Psychological test. My TATs was good, WAT was ok, and SRT was ok.

2nd day was GTO-1st. My performance in GD 1st was not satisfactory, I was left alone by my group. My communication was not appealing. Might be I was not loud and clear. In GD-2nd I initiated, my performance and contribution was good. In group planning I brought good points but I think I was little dominating there. In PGT I was silent in obstacle 1 as there was fish market everyone wanted to hold phatta and bali, obstacle 2nd I was giving idea but didn’t get chance to do anything as the guys were in completion mood, in third obstacle when everyone’s ideas failed, I gave them idea, no one listened to me they were busy in speaking and trying without any objective. GTO sir said someone of your group has given good idea then kept there mouth shut and went in front and helped them, awe crossed that obstacle. 4th obstacle was really challenging with GTO’s help we did it. In this obstacle my idea’s helped the group. Then my contribution in snake race was good according to me, I coordinated and cooperated with group. I boosted energy of my group whenever required. HGT was little tough but we did it in time, GTO was putting pressure on us by saying “Gentleman you are engineers and you are not able to do this simple obstacle. Shame on you, you are running out of time etc”. My Lecturete was okay need to be more fluent. I was thinking and speaking like ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee’. In individual obstacle i did 12. I could have done 14.

3rd day was GTO-2nd. As only Command task and FGT was left we were called late in GTO grounds. We reached ground and were sitting on bench on ground. As sudden GTO came from front gate which was nearly 100m away from where we were sitting. WE looked on him but didn’t wished him morning as we thought when he will come near then we will wish but he came in front of us and said “you F*****s you don’t know how to give respect to officers, You assho***s, pity on you, agar koi jawan hota to me use kacha kha jata, mera beta b tumari age ka h, but uske pas manners hai, tumari tarah nae hai. Behan***d” Then with little courage I only said sorry. After that he cooled down, there after our Command task started. I was called 5 times as subordinate. My task was really very difficult, GTO was helping me by giving suggestions. I did task in 3 different approaches.
In FGT the GTO was not having any files or pens. He came near us and was only observing each group member.Later in the end, He briefed us about tomorrow’s conference in details and explained what we look. I liked few of his lines I am writing it here. He said “We are not interested in Phatta, Balli and whether you were able to do task or not. We are interested in knowing how your personality comes out in doing phatta and balli. How you behave and react. We are not interested in knowing your past and present. We are assessing on your future qualities, that after passing out from academy. How you will look like, will you be ready to sacrifice your family and yourself when called upon to do so. Actually here we are looking your future. That is why this SSB interview is different from corporate interviews”
My interview was on same day. President (Brigadier) of 21 ssb took my interview it last around 45 minutes. i Am giving u every detail of our conversation:
As i opened door,

President: Come in Jitender
Me: Sorry sir, it is Janendra (standing near chair)
P: Ohh! Sorry Janendra, Sit down
M: Thank you sir
P: you know Janendra It’s a human psychology u read what u wanted to read and Jitender was my favorite hero of our time.
M: Fav hero (I repeated His words, He thought Jitendra is my fav hero too)
P: Have u soon any of his movies?
M: Yes sir
P: name them
M: I don’t remember the name of any movies sir.
P: tell the story of any movie of his movie.
M: (I described a short story of one of his movie, which was incomplete, I didn’t remember there:
P: I have not seen any such movie. Okay leave it. How is your stay here?
M: Sir comfortable.
P: you are from Allahabad. Tell me something about it.
M: (I gave very long answer for 2 minutes and in last said Allahabad has produced 7 prime minister in nearly 6 decades)
P: then still Allahabad is not developed despite having 7 PMs. I stayed there for 4 days. Roads of Allahabad are not good, problem of water and light. What you think who is responsible for it?
M: Sir, We people are responsible
P: How you are responsible! I think some other is responsible.
M: Sir, politicians are responsible, they are not developing it.
P: okay, Janendra You got Certificate from army welfare education society. How you got it?
M: sir, after passing b.tech 1styear. My father told me about Army welfare education society Scholarship. I applied and got scholarship and merit certificate.
P: okay. You secured low marks in class 12thas compared to 10th class. Why?
M: sir, I was weak in chemistry and computer science in class 12th.
P: have you not done extra coaching or tuition to make them strong?
M: I did sir, I took extra classes in school, took help of friends irresptive of that I got low marks.
P: (He looked my PIQ) you did not much paid attention to studies. Your attention was on sports. Which one is important, a sport or class 12 studies?
M: sir, 12th studies.
(As I completed my answer. I thought he will speak something, but he didn’t speak anything. He was looking on me. Then I again continued)
M: sir I got 67.2% and its not bad marks.
P: I am not saying it’s bad. I am saying you secured 75.6 in 10th and 67.2 in 12. Then why such decline in percentage. For example if a man is earning 50,000 per month and next month if he will get 30,000. It is bad. But if he is earning 30,000 and next month he got 50,000 it is good for him.
M: sir my concepts were not clear. I took coaching despite of it I got low marks.
P: okay leave it. What was your AIEEE score?
M: sir my rank was around 90,000.
P: Why you didn’t take Army Institute of Technology?
M: Sir, my rank was not enough to take admission in it. To get admission in it one need to require good rank less than 30,000.
P: but one candidate I interviewed few days back. His rank was 60,000 and he got admission in it.
M: may be sir his father has won some gallantry awards, so he got admission despite such high rank. According to my knowledge less than 30,000 rank is required in AIEEE to get admission.
P: okay what are you doing now days in home?
M: Sir, I am Preparing for PSUs and taking coaching of GATE.
P: What is PSUs and GATE?
M: sir PSUs are Public Sector Companies such as power grid, NTPC, BHEL as they take fresher’s in their company through GATE exam scorecard, which stands for Graduate Test in Engineering for M.Tech programs in IITs and NITs.
P: What will happen if army also take candidates for SSB through GATE score card, like those candidates will come for TGC SSB who have at least 70 percentile in GATE.
M: sir, armies don’t want intellectuals. Army wants a common man having common sense with 15 OLQs. Developing knowledge is easier then developing personality, it takes nearly one month to master on any subject but it take many years in developing good personality like gentleman. But low cutoff in gate is most welcome according to me. As a result fewer candidates will come for screening. It will be good for you in management and good for us also.
P: How you spent you time with family?
M: Sir now days I spent my most of the time in home. Me, my sister and mom spent dinner time, tea time in laughing and sharing views, Brother generally calls us on Sundays or whenever he gets time. Father calls us daily from leh. So we all family members are connected through phones.
P: okay, what is market rate of arahar dal?
M: (I dint expected this question, I took time and then spoke) sir 63 RS per kg.
P: You tell me the name of shop; I will also buy from there. What is the market rate of cauli flower?
M: sir 12 rupees per piece.
P: okay, where are Aravali Mountains?
M: sir in Madhya Pradesh.
P: IF Rajasthan people will listen it. They will beat you.
(Then he asked me 5 more geographical questions. None of them I answered)
P: The electrical sockets plug is of 5 amps and 15 amps. Why not they are of 10 amps?
M: sir, according to ohm’s law. V=IR. R being constant for a device. If I is large then voltage required is low and in devices such as refrigerator, geyser, A.C High current is required for heating purpose. That is why there wires are thick and they require 1a5a amp socket plug.
P: but my home AC requires only 5 amps
M: may be sir. Your AC has some new technology. J But generally heating devices require 15aa amp socket.
P: Tell me about your father?
M; Sir my father is nb/sub in AOC and currently posted in 14 corps OMC. He has spent his 25 glorious years in army.
P: OMC stands for?
M: Ordnance Maintenance Unit.
P: tell me you two good qualities and two qualities which you would like to improve?
M: sir my good qualities are I am innovative and motivator. And I would like to take more interest towards books and want to improve my stamina.
P: how you are innovative?
M: sir, once we were making robots in college event, a there we needed propellers of water robots. Then I gave them idea to use computer processor fan. Firstly they rejected my idea but they later used my idea. It was very innovative idea.
P: from where your brother was recommended d for NDA.
M: Sir he was recommended from Bhopal board twice in NDA and in TES, 8 months back.
P: Janendra you would like to ask anything from me?
M: no sir.
P: nice talking to you. Thank you
M: thank you sir.

I was laughing in whole conversation and he was sipping black tea. J Whatever I recalled I wrote. I think my interview was not as better as I wanted. I have told my experience to fresher and repeaters to get ready to tackle unexpected question in interview. You can’t fool them. If you really want to join Indian army by leaving all things behind then only join.

From this interview I inferred he was having my Self Description and PIQ of my previous interview if TGC-115, there I wrote in Self Description that I help my mom in home activities. And he has asked questions also from my previous SSB PIQ and Psychological report.

I was expecting my selection but my heart beaked on 5th day. Now I am preparing for my last army SSB chance. Hope this time I will make my dream into realty. Wish me guys.
