  • India announced an aid of 5000 crore rupees to Bhutan. The decision to provide an aid to Bhutan was taken by the Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India after his talk with his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay at New Delhi on his six day visit to India.
  • The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Dronacharya Awards, Arjuna Awards, Dhyan Chand Awards, Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar at a function organized at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. Among the awards, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was given to Ronjon Sodhi for shooting.
  • C-17 Globe master III Aircraft inducted in Indian Air Force at hindon airbase. The C-17, with a capability to carry around 80 tonnes of load and around 150 fully geared troops, will replace the Russian IL-76 as the biggest aircraft in the IAF inventory till now.
  • Rajya Sabha Passed the National Food Security Bill 2013 through the Voice Vote.
  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in first week of September 2013 appointed Rakesh Sood as his new Special envoy for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. Rakesh Sood retired from the Indian Foreign Service in March 2013.
  • Raghuram Rajan succeeded Subbarao as the 23rd Governor of RBI.he has served as the Chief economist at the International Monetary Fund.
  • GSAT–7, India’s First Defense Satellite, Successfully Placed in the Geosynchronous Orbit launched from Kourou, French Guiana on 30 August 2013.
  • Indian Railways developed a fire and smoke detection system on all the coaches for the safety of the passengers. The system is capable for checking and giving alarm to passenger during initial stages of fire, thereby giving valuable time for shifting to safe areas and evacuation.
  • Lok Sabha on 4 September 2013 passed the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill (PFRDA), 2011, with official amendments. 
  • ISRO to launch Mars Orbiter Mission in November 2013.
  • Lok Sabha on 6 September 2013 passed the Representation of the People (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2013. Rajya Sabha already passed the bill on 27 August 2013. The Bill was passed in Lok Sabha without any discussion. 
  • The Lok Sabha on 6 September 2013 passed the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill, 2013 for keeping the chairpersons of National Commissions for the SC and ST out of purview of office of profit.
  • Deepak Sandhu became the first woman Chief Information Commissioner on 5 September 2013. She was administered the oath of the office by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Deepak Sandhu took over the office from Satyananda Mishra. Mishra served the 5 year term in the office.
  • President of India Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on 6 September 2013 conferred Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony, 2013 on Maestro Zubin Mehta. 
  • An Indian woman writer Sushmita Banerjee was killed by unidentified gunmen outside her home in eastern Paktika province of Afghanistan.
  • The Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari presented the First Sree Narayan Guru Global Secular & Peace Award 2013 to Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Human Resources Development.
  • The Union Government of India on 10 September 2013 notified changes in the FDI policy under FEMA regulations, paving the way for larger overseas investments in sectors, such as multi-brand retail and telecom. As per the revised guidelines, the government relaxed norms for multi-brand retail trading and eased the mandatory 30 per cent local sourcing norms for companies. It has also widened the definition of the term control for mergers and acquisitions, involving overseas companies, a move that will provide more clarity to foreign investors. The government notification follows the Cabinet decision of 2 August 2013 to relax overseas investment norms.
  • Agni-5 Successfully Test Fired from Chandipur Test Range
  • Cricketers S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan on 13 September 2013 were handed life ban for IPL spot-fixing by BCCI.
  • Convicts of 16 December Delhi Gangrape Awarded Death Sentence by the Saket Court
  • The National Food Security Bill, 2013 received the assent of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on 10 September 2013. With this assent, the National Food Security Bill 2013 became the Act. 
  • Bollywood actor John Abraham was on 16 September 2013 conferred the Pride of the Nation award for his attempt to raise the sensitive issue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination through his role as a RAW agent in Madras Café film.
  • Kanoon Lugat, an Urdu law dictionary, a first of its kind in the country was released on 15 September 2013 in Mumbai.
  • The Union Government on 18 September 2013 removed social scientist Yogendra Yadav from the membership of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for joining the Aam Admi Party.
  • Inflation Increased to 6.1 percent in August 2013; Highest in Six Months.
  • BJP Parliamentary Board announced Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate.
  • Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on 21 Septmber 2013 selected for a US award for his television show Satyamev Jayate along with eminent American director Kathryn Bigelow and the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC).
  • The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Bill, 2013 received assent of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. With this, the Bill became an Act on 19 September 2013.The Bill was moved by the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Kumari Selja. The Bill seeks to prohibit employment of individuals as the manual scavengers, while at the same time providing for the rehabilitation of people involved in this kind of work. 
  • The Union Cabinet on 20 September 2013 approved the proposal of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), a Public Sector Undertaking to set up a 9 MMTPA greenfield Refinery cum Petrochemical Complex in Barmer District in Rajasthan. This Refinery cum Petrochemical Complex will be set up as a Joint Venture (JV) with Government of Rajasthan under the name HPCL-Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL).
  • Seekho Aur Kamao (Learn and Earn) Progrmme Launched by Union Government of India.
  • Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India on 23 September 2013 it is a central sector scheme for Skill Development of Minorities.
  • Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was appointed as the brand ambassador of the Border Security Force (BSF) on 22 September 2013. It is important to note that any central force in India has appointed its brand ambassador. BSF is the second largest paramilitary force of India that guards two crucial Indian borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • Russia and Government of India on 21 September 2013 agreed on collaboration to jointly develop and manufacture civilian aircraft and helicopters for especially for emergency relief and medical purposes. Russian Government also offered to set up manufacturing facilities in the India for joint production of defense hardware.
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on 23 September 2013 delivered the first Hawk Mk-132 advanced jet trainer aircraft to the Indian Navy in Bangalore. India’s state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) produced the trainer under a license from BAE Systems of UK. HAL plans to deliver a total of 17 of the naval variants over the next three years.
  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 25 September 2013 imposed a life ban on former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi from participating in any of its activities. 
  • Prime Minister of India Approved Constitution of Seventh Central Pay Commission.
  • The Union Cabinet on 24 September 2013 approved an ordinance to protect convicted law makers from facing immediate disqualification.
  • The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill 2013, received assent of the President of India on 27 September 2013.The bill has now become law. 
  • The Supreme Court of India on 27 September 2013 held that citizens have the right to reject all candidates contesting an election. The Supreme Court also directed the Election Commission of India to provide none of the above options at the end of the list of candidates contesting an election in a constituency.
  • Pond’s Femina Miss India World 2013 Navneet Kaur Dhillon on 27 September 2013 won the Multimedia Award at the Miss World 2013 in Indonesia. India won this award for the second time in a row.
  • The 4th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs was held in Beijing on 29-30 September 2013. The Indian delegation was led by Gautam Bambawale, Joint Secretary (East Asia) and comprised of representatives of the Ministries of External Affairs, Defence and Home Affairs as well as members of the Indian Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
  • N. Srinivasan Re-Elected As the BCCI President for the Third Term.
  • NCA Chairman Ranjib Biswal was on 29 September 2013 appointed as chairman of the IPL during the Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at Chennai.
  • Rajnath Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party President became the campaign committee chief for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls on 29 September 2013 in New Delhi.
  • India and United States of America (USA) signed a joint declaration on 27 September 2013 in defense cooperation in research in defense, defiance technology transfer, co-development and co-production of defiance articles and services and protecting each other’s sensitive technology and information.
