Indian Army Jobs for Engineering Students : Type of Commission

There are two types of commission for joining Indian army after engineering, one is permanent Indian Army Jobs for Engineering Studentscommission and another is short service commission. Indian army has special technical entries for engineering students but there are other Indian army entries which engineering students can apply. We are listing down different technical entries for engineering student including non technical entries to join Indian army after engineering.

Indian Army Jobs for Engineering Students [ Technical Entry ]

  • TGC – Technical Graduate Course : The most popular entry for engineering students to join Indian army after engineering is TGC entry, TGC entry is conducted by Indian army two times every year and engineering candidates get shortlisted based on their percentage till 6th semester. TGC entry is only for male engineering students and one gets permanent commission through this entry, one who clear TGC entry interview join Indian military academy for training.
    • Age Limit: 21- 26 Years as per the notification.
    • Education Qualification: An engineering degree as per the notification.
    • How to apply: One must apply online only for TGC entry through http://joinindianarmy.nic.in
    • TGC Cut Off Marks: 70% – 75% varies as per latest notification.
    • Training Duration: 1 Year in Indian Military Academy.
    • No written test, shortlisting will be done based on engineering percentage.

  • SSC- Technical: This is a similar entry like TGC entry but the main difference is that it is for short service commission and not for permanent commission. Both male and female candidates can apply for SSC- Tech entry which is conducted by Indian army twice every year.
    • Age Limit: 21- 26 Years as per the notification.
    • Education Qualification: An engineering degree as per the notification.
    • How to apply: One must apply online only for SSC -Tech entry through http://joinindianarmy.nic.in
    • SSC -Tech Cut Off Marks: 70% – 75% varies as per latest notification ( differs for male and female)
    • Training Duration: 1 Year in Officers Training Academy, Gaya.
    • No written test, shortlisting will be done based on engineering percentage.

Indian Army Jobs for Engineering Students [ Non -Technical Entry ]

There are various other non- tech entries for Indian army which candidates can apply for after completing their engineering degree, though their engineering degree won’t be playing an important role while applying for such entries and they will be considered as a normal graduate student.

  • CDS Exam: This exam is  conducted by UPSC two times every year, this is a written test and any engineering student can apply for this as there is no percentage bar.
  • NCC Special Entry: Engineering students with NCC ‘C’ certificate can apply for this entry as and when the notification comes.
  • Territorial Army: Engineering students who are gain fully employed can also apply for territorial army.
