Decoding The Self Description Test

Psychology has four rounds conducted on aspirants namely TAT, WAT, SRT, SD. Though self description test is the last round in this series but let me tell you that it is the most important round in the psychology series where the aspirant has to describe himself or herself as to what he or she thinks about themselves, what their parents things and other people closely associated think about them. This can be considered as sales pitch where one would tell that I have certain characteristics and please verify the same through other rounds. This is the purpose of this round so be clear that whatever you write should be clearly reflected in other rounds for getting the recommendation. Other aspirants make a mistake here as they write what they don’t have which results in a mismatch and thus the rejection. This can be written nicely and prepared by doing deep self-introspection where you reach the result by realising about yourself.

Time allotted to write is 15 minutes and you have to write the following:

  • What do you think about yourself?
  • What do your parents think of you?
  • What your friends/ colleagues think of you?
  • What your boss/ teacher thinks of you?
  • What limitations do you feel in yourself?

The aim of this exercise is to assess the maturity of the participants that whether he knows of himself or not. Also, you are the best one who knows about yourself no one else can access you in the best way apart from yourself. Hence through these exercises you are made to write who you are and then through other exams you are judged whether you were right or wrong. If interference if found between what you say and what you do, you are recommended. How to prepare well for this exam?

  • Keep track of time as it’s important to write something for each category. No category should be left unanswered.
  • Don’t even try to bluff or tell lies or else you will never be selected.
  • Try to show your true character in this exercise. Or else it would be caught either by the psychologist or the interviewer.Self Description Test ssb
  • Have knowledge of both positives and negatives about you. Because it gives a good impression to the examiner that you have thorough knowledge about yourself.
  • Don’t feel shame in consulting parents and teachers, colleagues, friends to know their opinion about you. Since what they think needs to be mentioned this is the perfect opportunity to know this. They will give some of the details which I am sure to your surprise you might not know.
  • Since it’s like you already know what to write, you should prepare beforehand and prepare a paragraph for each category.
  • Be ready with the wish list of how you gonna remove your negative qualities. Do mention them as no one is perfect and everyone has it.

Yes, it’s that easy. Just follow these simple suggestions and it makes you prepare for a part of Psychology round and for the PI too. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at jayendrapsingh@gmail.com or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Performance in psychology primarily determines the selection so don’t forget to work on this important tool of SSB through introspection.
