I Got Recommended For Indian Army In 19th Attempt

0

Hello aspirants, my name is Amrinder Singh and I got recommended in 19th attempt for TGC-122 from 19 SSB Allahabad on 30th Oct 2015. Earlier I was 12 times CO and 6 times SO. My journey to become an army officer started 7 years ago when I first appeared before SSB for NDA entry. I have tread a long and arduous road to achieve my aim finally. That time I was asked a question “Do you have it in you?” and now I can proudly say “Yes! I have it in me”.  Over these years of struggle I faced failures 18 times but that didn’t FAIL me because I never gave up. “Never Give UP” these were very powerful words for me and these words gave me the courage to rise again after falling. Many of my friends and family members thought now I will not make it to Army and I should stop trying and do my job as a Police Sub Inspector. They thought that I got settled in life, but there was a voice in my heart that said “It is not what you are made for “. I wanted to be an army officer, it was not just a govt. job for me but an honorable and a less ordinary life that I ever wanted to live. You will also come across this after few failures and people will start disbelieving in you. That is the testing time of your grit, you have to believe in yourself no matter what.

Buddies I will not waste your time with how I reached and what pictures and words I faced. Rather will tell you what I learned from all these attempts. Many people ask what are they looking for, the simple answer to this is 15 OLQs. An aspirant must know and understands all OLQs by heart.  Psychologist, GTO and IO all three are looking for these qualities by different techniques.

Introspection plays a vital role in SSB preparation. It means knowing yourself. Knowing yourself doesn’t only mean your strengths but also your weaknesses. It takes a lot of moral courage to know your weaknesses and accepting them. Introspection lets you know what you like, what you don’t what kind of persons you get bonded easily. Introspection is backbone of preparation for Psyche tests and Interview. Do it thoroughly by seeking inwards.

Logical approach: You have to develop logic in every aspect of your life. If you are doing something you must know why you are doing. You are required to have reasons even for your choices. In short you must have reason for anything that is related to you.

PPDT

In PPDT, the foremost task is to observe the picture carefully (there is a difference between observe and look), observe the surroundings, people, notice things. That helps in perception and writing the story. Make the story realistic, simple and related to you if possible. Then narration is the first impression in front of assessors, make most of it. Narrate the story crisp, loud and clear. In GD it’s about behavior in group and expression.  Grab the opportunity to give your point, but don’t interrupt anyone. In my opinion one should speak 2-3 times at max and helps group towards making common story.

Psychological tests

Psychological tests don’t require coming with preconceived ideas but that doesn’t mean one shouldn’t practice. Practice writing stories, words, SRTs under time constraints to get one familiar to test conditions and time factor. During testing, you have to be with fresh mind and respond to the stimulus what comes in mind. In Psyche tests remember the quality matters not the quantity.

TAT is the base of psyche tests. The stories should be reactionary not visionary. They can be derived from daily life, your past experiences and your visualization. In stories you don’t have to write qualities of hero directly like he was cooperative, hard working etc. The qualities should be shown by hero’s feelings and actions.

WAT: Each word is an opportunity to show your quality. Thinking much won’t help you have to write response immediately. Practice WATs with MS PowerPoint.

SRTs: I wrote responses using minimum words but specifying all what to be done. Don’t think much as there is no right or wrong in this. Just think for a moment what you will do if are in that situation in real life and write it down.

Self description: It’s all introspection as I mentioned earlier also. The more you introspect the better you will be able to perform in this test. This is the first time I didn’t memorize my SD and wrote what came into my mind. Though I wasn’t able to complete it but still made it through this time.

INTERVIEW

Interview is mostly about self awareness, reasoning ability and confidence. IO asks questions based on PIQ, technical and GK. The latter two doesn’t matter much but you should know thoroughly about yourself, your relationships with close friend’s n family, your job profile. Preparation for interview can be done by framing questions based on every word you have written in PIQ. Then be prepared to the counter questions which IO will be asking from your answers. One can practice Interview by giving it to your friend.Recommended For Indian Army In 19th Attempt TGC 122

GTO

Group tasks are mostly about team work. It’s not a competition among group members. One has to help the group move forward. One shouldn’t dominate the group and speak every other time, but to come with a idea when the situation so warrants.

This time I was grouped among freshers so I cautiously made it a point to never let them feel I am a seasoned repeater. In GD I spoke only 3-4 times and every time I spoke for around 1 min giving my views completely. I listened receptively to other’s points. In Ground tasks, your idea to go across the structure and your cooperation with group matters whether you are giving from behind or at forward.

Results

Our hearts were pounding and there was a hope of getting through. Duty Officer before announcing results said result is quite good. When he announced my chest no 8, I didn’t believe my ears at first, it happens when your hope is crushed for 18 times. I was at cloud 9; so long I waited for this moment in my life. It was the happiest day in my life.

Meet Lt. Parikshit Bawa, Who Won Sword Of Honour In OTA Passing Out Parade 2016

0

On 12th, March 2016 passing out parade was counted at officers training academy, Chennai. With this Indian army got few more young men and women officers for the motherland. This is the story of Lt. Parikshit Bawa who won sword of honour at OTA, Chennai, which means he was the best cadet in his whole batch.

We had a small conversation with Lt. Parikshit Bawa who is sharing his experience of joining OTA, Chennai, winning sword of honour and becoming an army officer. Hope this will help our future officers and aspirants.

SSBCrack: How did your journey to join Indian army began?

Lt. Parikshit Bawa: I’m a 4th generation officer and a 3rd generation into my unit. My grandfather and father both served in the Armoured Corps. Even so I did my college from Delhi University first and saw the corporate life. After spending three years in college, the life ahead didn’t seem to carry any adventure. I decided to write my CDS exam, even though I wasn’t too sure on joining. But a few months before the result I decided the army was best suited for me.
I cleared my SSB in my first attempt. The secret is just remain yourself and enjoy it. The more you think about it, the more nervous you get and tend to make mistakes.
I would choose to join the forces any day of the year.

SSBCrack: How was your Academy (OTA) life?

Lt. Parikshit Bawa:  OTA is a wonderful training academy. Training for me started the way I expected it. Introduction to all the traditions of the academy followed by learning the hard way. The fact that there are only two terms gives the juniors only one term to learn and then teach the next batch. And the senior term ensures that the juniors live upto the standards and ethos of the Academy once they pass out.
I love the Academy and I feel each officer from the OTA is worthy of doing great in his or her career.

SSBCrack: Many aspirants want to know the secret of winning sword of honour, tell us what all a cadet has to go through to earn it?

Lt. Parikshit Bawa: First and foremost a Cadet should remember to learn at the academy. A lot of cadets tend to go with the flow of the academy and do only what is required. You have to go beyond that. You have to give your extra bit each and every day. There isn’t a secret formula. It is basic things like smiling all the time, helping out fellow cadets even though you don’t have time, following the rules even when no one is looking, not taking shortcuts, putting in all your effort into what you are doing, participating in classes. These small things on a daily basis tend to make you a very confident person and that is the basis.
Winning the Sword of Honour is secondary to becoming a good officer. Once you train well and become confident, it will come on its own.

SSBCrack: How does it feel to carry the sword of honor?

Lt. Parikshit Bawa: It feels great to carry the Sword. There is definitely a level one needs to maintain after achieving this feat and I’m sure my instructors from Academy have groomed me well enough to do so.
What feels better is to see my parents extremely proud of me. Their happiness makes the win complete.

SSBCrack: One thing you will miss the most after leaving Officers Training Academy?

Lt. Parikshit Bawa:  My coursemates! I will miss them the most. None of us wanted leave Academy. The bonding one makes during training is phenomenal.

SSBCrack: Any advice for future officers and aspirants?

Lt. Parikshit Bawa:  I would advice everyone to always remain happy. Even during the worst day, if you can manage a smile nothing will go wrong. Also, always remain lively and on your toes. Be visible. Make friends with everyone. Spend quality time with your coursemates. Respect your seniors and instructors and most importantly, LEARN every little thing.

Here are some pictures of Lt. Parikshit Bawa at Officers Training Academy, Chennai

An Indian Army Soldier Who Deserved Param Vir Chakra?

0
Naik Digendra Kumar

So recently we have posted a picture of Naik Digendra Kumar, also know as COBRA, he was an Indian army commando and came into picture for his superhero act during Kargil war.

We posted a picture of him on our Facebook page and in three days it was viewed by more than 1 Million people on Facebook, shared 10,000+ times. The picture told his brave act during Kargil war and the story sounds like an action movie script but it happened in reality.

Naik Digendra Kumar Kargil

BUT, this isn’t the only story about him you will hear today, as per his wiki page, he has done something else which is not only unbelievable but also made us wonder “Why this Indian army soldier never got Param Vir Chakra”. We know our soldiers never ask for medals and they do their selfless duty, but the curosity will always remain there.

Check these facts below and put your thoughts.

Naik Digendra Kumar In Operation Pawan

Operation Pawan was the code name assigned to operations by the Indian Peace Keeping Force to take control of Jaffna from the LTTE in late 1987, enforcing the disarmament of the LTTE as a part of the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord. After fighting that lasted for about three weeks, the IPKF took control of the Jaffna Peninsula from the LTTE, something that the Sri Lankan army had attempted and failed to achieve for several years. Supported by Indian army tanks, helicopter gunships, and heavy artillery, the IPKF routed the LTTE, although they lost 214 soldiers in the process.

Kumar and his group were assigned to patrol dominant areas in Tamil. Five Tamil militants fired and killed five soldiers from Kumar’s squad. In return, Kumar and the remaining soldiers of his squad followed the militants into the house of an MLA. However, the MLA opposed the action, and in the ensuing firefight the MLA, along with the five Tamil militants, was killed. This caused some controversy, and Kumar was penalised and remanded.

Meanwhile, 36 soldiers of the 10th Parachute Regiment were captured and held by the LTTE. Lt. Gen. A.S. Kalkat assigned the task of freeing them to Kumar. Kumar took with him 50 kg ammunition and some biscuits and sailed up the river. Kumar saved the soldiers (who had been held in the forest for 72 hours), destroyed an important ammunition depot, and killed 39 militants.

Role in the Kargil war

Major Vivek Gupta, of the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles and his company were given the task of Digendra Kumarrecapturing Point 4590 on Tololing Hill in the Dras sector. The objective was to capture the enemy post, located at high altitude (15,000 feet).

Kumar commanded the Light Machine Gun Group during his company’s assault. Besides Kumar, the commando team included Major Vivek Gupta, Subedar Bhanwar Lal Bhakar, Subedar Surendra Singh Rathor, Lance Naik Jasvir Singh, Naik Surendra, Naik Chaman Singh Tewatia, Lans Naik Bachchan Singh, CMH Jashvir Singh, and Havaldar Sultan Singh Narwar.

The Pakistani army had made 11 bunkers on the Tololing hilltop. Kumar was to target the first and the last bunkers. The other commandos were to target the remaining 9 bunkers.

On 13 June 1999, while nearing its objective, the Assault Group came under enemy fire and took casualties. Subedar Bhanwar Lal Bhakar, Lance Naik Jasvir Singh, Naik Surendra, and Naik Chaman Singh were all killed. Major Vivek Gupta himself was killed by a bullet wound to the head.[1] Although Kumar was hit by a bullet in his left arm, he kept firing on the enemy with his light machine gun. His fire facilitated his men’s advancement, allowing them to physically assault the enemy position and clear the area after a hand-to-hand fight. He was responsible to killed 48 Pakistani soldiers single handedly and received total 18 bullets on his body armour.

INS Kadmatt

Hello, Warriors! Adding to Indian Navy’s firepower, INS Kadmatt, the second ship of Project 28 (P28) class anti-submarine warfare (ASW) corvettes, was commissioned early in January, 2016. With the changing power dynamics in the Indian Ocean Region, INS Kadmatt will augment the mobility, reach and flexibility of Indian Navy.

This is the second indigenous stealth Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) corvette, built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) at Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.

Here are the few things that you need to know about INS Kadmatt:

  1. INS Kadmatt is named after one of the large islands amongst the Lakshadweep group of islands off the west coast of India.
  2. Commissioning of Kadmatt will add a new dimension to the ASW capability of Indian Navy and in particular, the Eastern Fleet. The multifarious missions that can be undertaken by the ship truly reflect the enhanced multi-dimensional capability of the Indian Navy.
  3. The unique feature of this ship is the high level of indigenisation incorporated in the production, accentuating our national objective of ‘Make in India’. About 90% of the ship is indigenous and the ship is equipped to fight in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) warfare conditions.
  4. ‘Kadmatt’ is the latest indigenous ship after Shivalik class, Kolkata class and INS Kamorta wherein a plethora of weapons and sensors have been integrated to provide a ‘Common Operational Picture (COP)’.
  5. With a displacement of 3300 tons, the sleek and magnificent ship spans 109 meters in length and 13.7 meters at the beam and is propelled by four diesel engines to achieve speeds in excess of 25 knots with an endurance of 3450 Nm.INS Kadmatt
  6. It has a multitude of networks such as Total Atmospheric Control System (TACS), Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Battle Damage Control System (BDCS) and Personnel Locator System (PLS) to provide a contemporary and process oriented System of Systems for optimal functioning of the warship.
  7. Some of the major equipment/ systems developed indigenously include Combat Management System, Rocket Launcher, Torpedo Tube Launchers and Infra-Red Signature Suppression System.
  8. The ship’s crew comfort has been a significant feature in the design of INS Kadmatt and has been ensured through ergonomically designed accommodation and galley compartments using modular concept.

INS Kadmatt will take part in international fleet review scheduled in Visakhapatnam from February 4-8. The ship is commanded by Commander Mahesh Chandra Moudgil and would be an integral part of the Eastern Fleet under the Eastern Naval Command.

It was a proud moment on Friday for the parents whose sons and daughters will graduate as young army officers this year at the Officers Training Academy (OTA). Yet this father’s story is different from the rest. Hailing from a humble, rural background, Surender Sharma (a farmer in a small village of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh), is beaming with pride as his son Sonu Sharma will pass out with a gold medal on Saturday.

Born and raised in Muzaffarnagar, Sonu is a BA graduate who later pursued studies to join the Air Force as well as the Navy but had to quit because of ‘technicalities’ involved in the services. Despite the initial hiccups, Sonu refused to give up and later chased his dreams of entering the Army. With his hard work and dedication, Sonu emerged as the gold medalist in a batch of 184 cadets who will be graduating as young men and women army officers.

Indian Air Force Says We Can’t Fight China And Pakistan Simultaneously

Indian Air Force vs China vs Pakistan

Indian Air Force vice-chief Air Marshal BS Dhanoa said in a meeting with media officials that Indian air force is not capable of fighting China and Pakistan at the same time due to lack of required number of aircraft. This news raised an alarm and questioned the national security.

He said “Our numbers are not adequate to fully execute an air campaign in a two-front scenario,” Indian air force has only 33 squadrons but the requirement is of minimum 42 squadrons at present.

He also said “Probability of a two front scenario is an appreciation which you need to do. But are the numbers adequate? No. The squadrons are winding down,”

Hope GOI will take care of this issue as soon as possible as this is matter of country’s security.

7 Tips To Win Sword Of Honour In Military Training Academy

0
7 Tips To Win Sword Of Honour

Joining the armed forces is one thing – you need to be the best of the rest; but being the best of best is another.

Hi Warriors, earning the sword of honour in a military training academy is no joke. Bear with me. Consider the odds: Every six months, on an average, about 6 lakh applicants apply for any given military academy (that’s a ‘6’ with five zeroes!). Of those, about 30-40 thousand gets selected for the SSB after clearing the exam (correct me). Of those 30-40 thousand, on an average, 500-700 gets recommended. And out of those final 500-700, the top 250 makes it to the academy. So, the odds are every 1 in 2000 applicants gets to join the prestigious academy.

And.. and.. out of those 250 lucky chaps, only 1 gets to earn the most prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’! So, agree with me that earning it is no joke?

Moving on, here are the 7 parameters that make a merit list for earning the Sword of Honour:

  1. Physical Tests: This is the most expected one out of any cadet to be considered for the sword of honour. When you are in an institution whose roots lie in the physical fitness, this can’t be compromised. This includes all sorts of drills and swimming tests. The fitter you are, the higher your chances to get top in the merit list.
  1. Field Training: This is the basic military skill to operate stealthily and the methods used to do so. Efficient field training is only possible by spending time, effort, and attention to memorize battlefield details, infiltration and escape routes, construction and employment of hiding positions, enemy force doctrines and equipment.
  1. Service Subjects: When you are already in final term, you are given your specialized service subjects. These are the subjects you earn if you are capable of it. So, much like field training, specializing in your service subjects earns you extra credits to be at the top in the merit list.
  1. Active Participation: An active participant is liked by everyone – one who doesn’t say ‘no’. You are expected to participate in games and sports and excel in it.
  1. Holding Appointments: This parameter puts to test the organisational and management skills which are by the most important skills an officer must have. Holding appointments makes it clear about what you are capable of.
  1. OLQs: For those who thought OLQs are only limited till the SSB screening, think again. You are tested for OLQs because you are expected to carry forward the same. Your OLQs are tested at each and every point in the academy.
  1. Additional Course: Those who have opted for an additional course like ‘Basic Para’ have an upper hand against those who haven’t. Hence, it again earns you extra credit to top the merit list.

Winning the Sword of Honour, you don’t need any introduction. The sword speaks for you. How many of you want to earn the Sword of Honour?
