Lt Col Natt’s military journey began in September 1998 when he was commissioned into the 19 GUARDS (Gurdaspur) as a Short Service Commission (SSC) officer. In May 2013, he joined the Territorial Army, being posted with the 160 Infantry Battalion TA (H&H) Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, a unit known for its gallantry in the face of adversity.

The Fateful Encounter

The defining moment of Lt Col Natt’s career came during Operation Santosh Manigah in November 2015. Leading his team in Haji Nanka village of Kupwara, they acted on intelligence reports of terrorists in the area. It was during this operation that Lt Col Natt showcased extraordinary bravery. While attempting to save three of his men from direct gunfire, he was struck by a bullet to his jaw. Despite his severe injury, he continued to engage the enemy, ensuring the terrorist was neutralized. This act of bravery earned him the prestigious Sena Medal (Gallantry).

The Aftermath and Prolonged Battle

The bullet injury led to Lt Col Natt falling into a coma. His subsequent years were spent in the Military Hospital in Jalandhar, where he fought a different kind of battle – one for life. For eight long years, he battled the aftermath of his injuries, showing the same resilience and strength he displayed on the battlefield.

Legacy and Honors

Lt Col Natt’s demise on a Saturday in 2023 left a void in the hearts of many. He is survived by his wife, Navreet Kaur, daughters Guneet and Ashneet, and a father who is an Army veteran himself. His funeral, held with full military honors, was a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by our soldiers.

In 2016, on Republic Day, Lt Col Natt was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry), acknowledging his exceptional leadership and courage. This honor serves as a lasting tribute to his bravery and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country.
