Story Of Major Shaitan Singh, Param Vir Chakra

0

Major Shaitan Singh was commanding a company of infantry battalion deployed at a height of about 17,000 feet. The locality was isolated from the main defended sector and consisted of five defended platoon positions.

During November 1962, the Chinese subjected the company position to heavy artillery, mortar and small arms fire and attacked in overwhelming strength in successive waves. Against heavy odds, our troops beat back the enemy attack. During the action, Major Shaitan Singh dominated the scene of operations, and moved at great personal risk from one platoon post to another sustaining the morale of his hard-pressed platoon posts. While doing so, he was seriously wounded but continued to encourage and lead his men who, following his brave example fought gallantly and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. For every man lost by us, the enemy lost four to five . When Major Shaitan Singh fell disabled by wounds in his arms and abdomen, his men tried to evacuate him but came under heavy machine gun fire. Maj Shaitan Singh ordered his men to leave him to his fate in order to save their lives.PARAM VIR CHAKRA Major Shaitan Singh, PVC (Posthumous)

Major Shaitan Singh’s supreme courage, leadership and exemplary devotion to duty inspired his company to fight almost to the last man. The heroic resistance put up by this gallant soldier with his company against the assault of more than one thousand Chinese, is not only a tribute to the Regiment, but also a matter of pride for soldiers, the World over. These brave soldiers fought to the last man and last round. For this historic battle Major Shaitan Singh was awarded Param Vir Chakra. Undoubtedly, the battle of Rezang La is a great feat of leadership, courage and unswerving determination in the annals of Military History. Appropriately the plaque at the memorial of Rezang La says: –

How can a man die better
than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
and the temple of his Gods”

General-Knowledge-All-About-POKHRAN

Pokhran is a place that comes under Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. It has a significant role in nuclear tests. It is a remote area under the Thar Desert. The test invited a wide range of responses and actions from all over the world.

Smiling Budha and Pokhran:
Smiling Budha is the name assigned to the first nuclear bomb test that took place on 18 May 1974 during the regime of Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The name Smiling Budha was given to it because it was done on the occasion of Budha Jayanti. It was 1st test by any country outside five permanent members of United Nation Security Council. This test was called ‘Peaceful Nuclear Explosion’ but actually it was not so.
— After Test Situation- The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi became much popular after military’s victory over Pakistan in 1971 war. The test added fame to her status. Scientists involved in the test, Homi Seth (chairman of Atomic Energy Commission), Raja Ramanna of BARC and Basanti Nagchaudhri of DRDO, were honored with Padma Vibhushan. Five other members of project were honored with Padma Shri. India came out with the statement that the test was peaceful and was not for militarizing its nuclear program.
— International Reaction- In response of the India’s nuclear test, Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) was formed in order to check international nuclear proliferation. Well Pakistan paused all relations and canceled talks scheduled on 10 June 1974. Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission said that this test forced Pakistan to test its own nuclear bomb. On the other hand, the plutonium used in the program was created in the reactor supplied by Canada which later stopped the nuclear energy assistance of two heavy water reactor which were under construction. While, U.S. provided enriched uranium to India for Tarapur reactor and said that the test don’t violate any agreement. France also sent a telegram congratulating India over nuclear test. But later it withdrew the telegram. General-Knowledge-All-About-POKHRAN
Pokhran II
Five nuclear tests were done by DRDO and Atomic Energy Commission on 11 and 13 May, 1998 at Pokhran, given the name “Pokhran II” and code named as Shakti. The test consists of 1 fusion and 4 fusion type bomb. The test preparations and secrecy was ensured by 58th engineering regiment of Indian Army.
— National Reaction- India became 6th country who tested nuclear bombs. Just after India’s fame speeded over the globe, India’s stocks gained new heights. But still congress criticized India’s test. Sanctions imposed by U.S. after test led to the loss for some sectors of the country.
–International Reaction- A strong reaction was faced from the neighbor, Pakistan. Immediately after the test, it declared that it is also prepared for performing its nuclear test. Indian and PAK PM Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Nawaz Sharif were awarded IG Nobel peace prize. U.S. imposed sanctions on India freezing all assistance except humanitarian aid. While UNSC and Canada condemned the test and China also requested international community to put pressure to sign NTP. Japan paused all loans except humanitarian aid. And later U.S. pressurized India to be a part of CTBT and NPT. But India’s firm stand took India to a secure place.

Why Pokhran is Recently in News:
A committee of experts will be formed to probe the issue of increased radiation level as a result of Pokhran-I and Pokhran-II tests. According to the residents of khetolai village, approx. 2.5 k.m. from Pokhran, the radiation level in the village has increased the cancer and psychiatric disease in the village along with the drastic fall in milk production in castles.

Lecturette: Un-Employment Problem in India

Lecturette-Un-Employment-Problem-in-India

Lecturette: Un-Employment Problem in India. Unemployment problem has been generated because of increased automation, population explosion and lack of proper handling of large number of labor force in general. It has resulted in widespread inequality and a solution is desperately sought. Statistics shows that India has the world’s largest youth count which is about 66% of the population.

Meaning of Unemployment

Unemployment is a situation where a person who is willing to work fails to get a job, which can provide him a regular income. Hence, a person who works for just few weeks in a year & consequently doesn’t earn a regular income, also fall within the range of unemployment & be classified as underemployment.

Types of Unemployment

Different countries depending on their level of development, face different kinds of unemployment.

-Cyclic Unemployment.

-Technological Unemployment.

-Frictional Unemployment.

-Structural Unemployment.

-Disguised Unemployment.

Last three types of unemployment are common in developing and underdeveloped countries like India.

On rural front both seasonal and disguised unemployment increased because of lack of irrigation facilities, recent crop failure and unavailability of temporary jobs for few months of cultivation of corps. Urban unemployment, referred as Industrial & Educated Unemployment has increased because of the lack of organized manufacturing. But, since last few years, the graph of unemployment is declining, that means the number of unemployed people are decreasing day by day.Lecturette-Un-Employment-Problem-in-India

Causes of Unemployment

Agriculture Background: Nearly half of the Indian population belongs to agriculture sector. As agriculture is a seasonal process, it leads to seasonal un-employment. Not only that, in case of irregular weather conditions, the farmers had to face the crop failure. As a result, they undergo unemployment.

Over Population: Currently Indian is suffering from rapidly increasing human population. This is due to increase in birth rate, decrease in death rate and increase in life expectancy. This leads to a situation where more aspirants are available for a single job.

Race for Government Jobs: Youngster of today’s generation prefer to reside at home and prepare for limited seats in government jobs instead of other private options. The best example is Delhi, where countless graduate students live in the hope to prepare for the government exams and got selected in any of its sector.

Solution to Unemployment:

Job Oriented and Skill Oriented Education System: Today, there must be an education system which should be focused on making the students skillful and make them job ready. With that, they will get the right job according to their skillset.

Initialization of Job Oriented Government Schemes: Government has always tried its best to overcome this problem. Till now, many employment related schemes has been initialized by the government which majorly includes Self Employment to Educated Unemployed Youth (SEEUY) started in 1983, Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Program started in 1982, and many more.
Indian government is doing its best to generate employment and eradicate poverty which is an outcome of overpopulation. MNEREGA, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojna and skill development are going simultaneously to enhance the ability of youth to grab a good employment opportunity. But still India is having a lot work to do in this field to accelerate its development and pace up its economy. According to the facts unemployment rate in India decreased to 4.9% in 2013 from 5.2 in 2012. An all India level survey also states that nearly 49.5% persons are estimated to be self-employed.

AIPMT Leak: The Art and Science of Cheating

0
AIPMT-Leak-The-Art-and-Science-of-Cheating

AIPMT is the mark after 12th which changes the future of a medical student. Every year lakhs of students appear for AIPMT with a dream to become Doctor. But some students take shortcuts to get instantly what some honest students has done after a struggle of 1-2 years.
Recently Supreme Court cancelled the AIPMT 2015 exams giving the statement that high tech cheating in the exam held on 3 May, 2015. The re-exam will be scheduled within 4 weeks. About 6.3 lakh students have attended the exam and have to again appear for it to get to the next level. This exam is the opportunity for medical students to get admission in 15% of the seats in central and state government medical colleges. This is the biggest cancellation of exam on the basis of violation of rules. CBSE on the other hand said that they can’t conduct the test within 1 month. It needs about approx. 4 months to re-conduct the examination. CBSE chairman said ‘For a normal AIPMT test, they start preparation from august’. So 1 month is not sufficient for re-examination.

What Actually Happened?
Haryana police arrested four people from Rohtak out of which two are BDS doctors, one is 2nd year MBBS student. They were using SIM card devices and Bluetooth enabled earphones for communication with the students. The devices were claimed to be bought from New Delhi and police have doubt of this gang having branch in other states also. The actual scenario was that the answer keys of 90 questions were sent to middle man by doctors and MBBS students which were passed on to the students. The students have paid an amount of Rs. 15-20 lakh in exchange of this cheating. The middle man was caught outside an examination center in Rohtak. Later on about 44 students were found guilty.
Outcome of Incident:
About 6.3 lakh students who have appeared in the examination have to prepare again and appear for the examination again on announced date. If CBSE goes with Supreme Court’s decision, then it is hard for honest aspirants to prepare again in 1 week. Two major effects were observed after this decision. First, several AIPMT aspirants are taking admission in Degree College and second, students committing suicide. Till now 4 students have committed suicide mostly the students form kota’s coaching hub. The reason behind these suicides is the parental pressure which made them to take this step.AIPMT-Leak-The-Art-and-Science-of-Cheating

“There is no shortcut to success”
This quote is applicable for those who cheated in AIPMT 2015 exam. Those students who want to take shortcuts for success had paid a hefty amount and still have to pay further but, those who had prepared thoroughly are also suffering from the situation appearing after this case. Firstly a student dedicate his 1-2 years in preparation of examination and parents pays money of 2-3 lakhs for the coaching. And finally what happens is that either they lose the opportunity or they have to prepare that mammoth syllabus again to appear again in the examination. But it’s better to appear gain then to lose the opportunity and letting non deserving getting the seats.

Should MNC Be Allowed To Invest In Agriculture Sector?

0
Should-MNC-Allowed-to-Invest-in-Agriculture-Sector

Should MNC be Allowed to Invest in Agriculture Sector? Private sector these days have been supporting the nation in various sectors. But a big question is emerging that whether MNCs should be given permission to support agriculture sector or not. This question divides the debaters in two groups.

Favor:

  • Positive Feedback From other Sectors– Multinational companies have proved to be good in other sectors like Defense (like TATA, Ashok Leyland and Reliance is also trying to get involved), Nuclear sector (deal between French AREVA and L&T), Banking and many other sectors. So, it can be a good decision and like other sectors we can hope for positive outcomes.
  • Big Part of Population Related to Agriculture – About 50% of the Indian population is related to agriculture sector. Recently a report has been released disclosing that 51% of the total people below poverty line in Rajasthan belong to agriculture to sector. So they need a proper care.
  • Vacuum in Government Policies – After crop damaged in various parts of the country in the beginning of this year, farmers saw the clear image of government’s help. In UP, government distributed cheques of Rs. 50-70 as compensation to those who had faced crop failure. So MNCs must be given a chance to handle this situation. Private companies can do the grievances and redressal task more efficiently.
  • Improve the Technology to Ease Efforts – Introduction of MNCs in agriculture sector will surely lead to the import and use of new technology in agriculture and will reduce the human efforts in agriculture. New advance technology, better funds for irrigation and better knowledge of farming will obviously help in development of this sector.
  • MNCs Providing Insurance will Overcome Farmer Suicide Rate – The rate of farmer suicide in many states like UP and Maharashtra has escalated this year and has been a problem from long time. If MNCs will provide easy insurance to farmers then this problem can be solved.Should-MNC-Allowed-to-Invest-in-Agriculture-Sector

Against:

  • Can Increase Price – Well, the basic theory of MNCs on which they work is “profit”. Introduction of MNCs in agriculture sector is expected to increase the food commodity price. This will increase a burden on middle class and lower class family’s budget.
  • Treating Farmers as Employees – The profit oriented attitude of companies will result in harassment of farmers. If they got profit they will continue better behave but if they face loss, they will sue it from farmers.
  • Agriculture Affected Mostly by Climate – MNCs may improve the condition of farmers if climate remains in their favor. But as India’s agriculture is mostly governed by weather and climate which is the base of cultivation. If weather goes against farmers then they have to get prepared for future situations including company’s criticism.

Conclusion:

Agriculture is the most favored profession in India, as more than half people of India is engaged in agriculture and they require special treatment because they are the reason behind making India green. As every issue has merits and demerits, this issue also has some likes and dislikes. Well they deserve a salute for farming in tough conditions and continuing it even after failure of their crops. MNCs have done a great job in modernizing many sectors and be beneficial for agriculture sector too. But it needs a surveillance body over it to watch their actions. The development of people belonging to agricultural sector is necessary as it is the base of the country and constitute a large part of Indian population.
