French President To Be The Chief Guest Of This Year’s Republic Day Parade

0
france-indian-republic-day

Hello, Warriors. French President Francois Hollande is invited to be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade of January 26, 2016.

The visit of Mr. Hollande to New Delhi for the mega-pageant of January 26 will be symbolic and send a message of a worldwide solidarity among the democratic countries against terrorism of the IS which staged the November 13 attacks in Paris last year.

The announcement on the presence of Mr. Hollande during the Republic Day parade has been finalised during the talks that French foreign minister Laurent Fabius had in Delhi on November 20 last year. Mr Fabius, one of the longest serving French diplomats, was in Delhi to discuss the climate conference.france-indian-republic-day

Importantly, France was the first country with which India established a Strategic Partnership in 1998 after New Delhi did nuclear tests. The two countries have close cooperation in defence, space, civil-nuclear and security issues along with strong trade and investment and cultural ties. France is also the first country with which India entered into civil nuclear energy cooperation in 2008 after obtaining the NSG waiver.

This will be the fifth time that a French leader will be a Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations — the maximum number from any country so far. Earlier leaders from that country had presided in 1976, 1980, 1998 and 2008. Bhutan has presided four times so far in 1954, 1984, 2005 and 2013.

An invitation to be the Republic Day chief guest is highly symbolic from the Indian government’s perspective. For the 2015 parade, the Modi government had invited Barack Obama, which was his second visit as US President to India. India was keen to host Hollande since France has emerged as a key strategic partner on defence and nuclear issues. And with the gruesome Paris attacks, counter-terrorism will be a key area of cooperation.

With this visit of the French President, let us hope that the partnership between India and France strengthens and more opportunities grow up between the two nations.

JFR Jacob – An Inspirational And Legendary Soldier

JFR Jacob

Hello, Warriors! One of India’s most celebrated military officers, Lieutenant General (retired) Jacob Farj Rafael Jacob passed away on January 13th. JFR Jacob, was head of the Indian Army’s eastern command during the 1971 India-Pakistan war that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh.

The 93-year-old passed away around 8.30 am at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) due to pneumonia.

Born in Kolkata (then Calcutta) in 1923, Jack Farj Rafael Jacob grew up in a conservative Baghdadi Jews household under the British rule. His family had origins in Iraq. Jacob did his schooling from Victoria School in Kurseong, West Bengal.

Download:

As a teenager, Jacob was strongly influenced by wartime poetry. Unmarried and childless, Jacob wrote an open letter to the youth of Delhi at 93, addressing them as his “sons and daughters”.

Jacob had joined the British army at the age of 18 “to fight the Nazis”. This kid later on went to command the Eastern Indian Army and played a pivotal role in defining the Indian Army’s strategy during the course of operations.

In the 1971 war, he designed a “war of movement” plan which was to capture all of East Pakistan including Dhaka by avoiding the towns in between and using secondary routes to reach the capital city. This plan, carried in just 15 days, made the Indian Army’s incursion of Dhaka successful.

After graduating from Officer’s Training School Mhow in 1942, Jacob also fought in World War II in northern Iraq, North Africa, Burma (now Myanmar), Sumatra, etc. He went on to graduate from artillery schools in England and the United States, where he got special training in advanced artillery and missiles and went on to serve for 37 years in different ranks in the Army.

After being promoted to Brigadier in 1963, he fought in the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War. Later on, Jacob was promoted to Major General in 1967.JFR Jacob

In 1971, Lt General Jacob was credited responsible for getting the Pakistani Commander Lt General AAK Niazi to sign the surrender document allegedly by blackmailing him that he would let the Mukti Bahini, the force of Bengali freedom fighters, loose on Pakistani nationals in Dhaka if he didn’t sign. Handing the document to General Niazi, which asked for Pakistan Army’s unconditional surrender, Jacob gave him 30 minutes to decide. Niazi accepted the conditions.

A strong supporter of India-Israel ties, the General joined the BJP in the 1990s and served as a security advisor to the party.

“I’ve never experienced any anti-Semitism in India, none whatsoever. When everyone asked me why I did not go to Israel, I told them I was born in India, India gave me everything, I will die in India,” Lt General Jacob had said in an interview.

The great legend had always and will continue to inspire the generations of soldiers and leaders to come.

9 Tricks To Overcome Negative Thoughts

0
9 Tricks To Overcome Negative Thoughts

“Believing in negative thoughts is the single greatest obstruction to success.” – Charles F Glassman.

It’s believed that indulging in negative thinking and believing in negative thoughts is easier than indulging in positive thinking. Indeed it is true. Try doing this- at the end of your day just mentally go through all the events that took place in those 24 hours. I’m pretty sure you’ll be more likely to come up with negative thoughts about some stressful events rather than being grateful and thankful about the good events that took place. It’s a common human tendency to think and dwell into negative thoughts. But ask yourself, what purpose is it really solving? Thinking negative thoughts and dwelling on negativity only gives rise to more and more level of stress and anxiety. Nothing really beneficial comes out of it.

Therefore, I’m going to share some ways on how you can tackle your negative thoughts.

  1. To get rid of negative thoughts first you need to start working on yourself, your thought processes and your mental setup towards problems. At the end of each day, give yourself 15-30 minutes. Just go through how your day went, did any significant event happen, how did that make you feel, etc. It’s very important to be in touch with your emotions and your thoughts. Knowing your negative thoughts will help you in handling them better.
  2. Yoga and/or Meditation.
The whole idea of yoga and meditation is to help us concentrate and focus better. Not only this, yoga and meditation helps in relaxing the mind and the body. It brings down our focus to that particular moment. It brings the focus of the wandering mind to the ‘here and now’ instead of a million thoughts that run through our minds.
  3. Check your social circle.
We live in such a complex world. We hardly have time for our loved ones, let alone having sometime to ourselves. Therefore, it becomes very important that you surround yourself with positive people. Your social circle has a major impact on how you think and act. Being with people who ooze positivity will help bring down your anxiety and negativity.
  4. Become solution focused instead of being problem focussed.
What we think, we become. It’s very important to be optimistic in the face of adversities instead of playing the victim and giving up. Next time you catch yourself dwelling on negative thoughts, try this- think of the worst case scenario. Literally the worst possible thing that could happen pertaining to that situation. Now look for ways to tackle it. You’ll be in a better position to come up with solutions rather than thinking about the problem.9 Tricks To Overcome Negative Thoughts
  5. Take charge of your life.
We have a tendency of playing the ‘victim’. Whenever something stressful happens, with which we cannot cope, we often come up with excuses. This is not the correct attitude to deal with problems. Take responsibility to whatever happens in your life. No matter how complicated a situation seems to be, there is always a way out. You always have a choice to either give up or to fight back and being caught up in your negative thoughts will make it harder for you to make the correct choice.
  6. Slow down.
Life is unpredictable. You will find yourself in situations that may seem inescapable, from time to time. In such times, just slow down. Give yourself a time out. Time out doesn’t mean that you’ll either run away or avoid the problem, no. Make a plan. Gather your resources and THINK how you can SOLVE the problem at hand.
  7. Be useful for others.
Helping someone in need and being of use for someone else can really elevate your mood. Take the attention off of yourself for a while and help the other person. It fills you with happiness and that in turn helps you by giving you time to deal and cope with your negative thoughts better.
  8. Seek help.
Sometimes you might find yourself completely helpless and in dire need of help. I personally know some people who would rather suffer by their negative and stressful thoughts than to ask for help or seek guidance. This is absolutely wrong. From time to time we all need help. Even psychologists need counseling sometimes! It’s completely alright to seek another person’s perspective on the issue at hand. You never know, you might come across some ideas that you couldn’t think of earlier.
  9. Do things that make you happy.
Take some time off from your hectic life schedule and indulge in things that make you happy or things that you wanted to do but couldn’t earlier. A happy mind results in happy thoughts. Go for walks, meet new people, spend quality time with your loved ones and yourself and most importantly, breathe.Negative thoughts are one thing that we can’t get rid of. At least not easily. New experiences in life might bring both the good and the bad in life. The trick is to be optimistic. Don’t focus on ‘what can be’, focus on ‘what is’.

Indian Air Force Officer Run Over By Former MLA's Son In Kolkata

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Corporal was run over and killed allegedly by a 26-year-old son of a former MLA in Kolkata on Wednesday morning. Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud (21) was the drill instructor of the IAF contingent that will participate in the Republic Day parade in Kolkata this year.

He was participating in a rehearsal around 6.30 am on Wednesday morning when a white Audi Q7 SUV tore through the security cordon laid around Red Road by Kolkata Police and knocked him down. The Corporal was rushed to the Eastern Command Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The nearly Rs 76 lakh SUV was purchased recently in the name of Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd of 16, Burman Street in north Kolkata. It is suspected that the vehicle was being driven by Ambia Sohrab, son of Md Sohrab who happens to be the president of the Fruit Merchants’ Association in Kolkata. Md Sohrab was also an Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA till 2011. The incident has sent shock waves to security agencies who consider it was a major security breach.Indian Air Force Officer Run Over By Former MLA's Son In Kolkata
“The Audi came at a high speed, knocked down the Corporal and then sped away. It then swerved and smashed into a barricade. The driver got off and escaped before security personnel could reach the spot where the SUV collided with the barricade. The vehicle managed to breach three rings of security around Red Road. It could have been an explosive-laden vehicle. We have taken up the matter with the police who are in charge of security during the parade rehearsal,” a senior defence ministry official said.

Kolkata Police commissioner Surojit Kar Purakayastha reached the spot to inspect the damage. “It seems that there was only one occupant in the vehicle. He managed to escape but we are going though CCTV footage to identify him. We are also inquiring how the vehicle managed to breach the security cordon around Red Road,” Purakayastha said from the spot.

Corporal Gaud was from Surat in Gujarat. A bachelor, he was posted at Air Force Station Kalaikunda in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal.

13 Psychological Life Hacks To Clear The Interview

0
13 Psychological Life Hacks To Clear The Interview

“The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” – Buddha.

We are shaped by our thoughts. How we think, perceive and believe all influences how we adjust and function in our environment. We all know that psychology has an integral role to play in the SSB interview. The agenda of the interview is to determine whether the candidate possesses the Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). This is done by means of a purposive or directed conversation between the candidate and the Interviewing Officer (IO). Not only is the current personality evaluated but the training potential of the candidate is also assessed.

In order to excel in the interview, the candidate needs to be in touch with his/her own personality and of their surroundings. The following psychological life hacks will help you in performing better in the SSB interview.

Cognitive reframing
It is a psychological technique used to identify negative thoughts, and reframing those thoughts into more positive challenges. Before your interview starts, instead of thinking it to be a threat, perceive it as a challenge which you have to overcome. You’ll be likely to perform better and efficiently.

You are in control of your emotions, and thoughts.
Tell yourself you’re happy or you’re excited. Eventually your brain will end up believing it. Saying that you’re depressed or you’re feeling anxious will make you all the more depressed and anxious.

Your attitude is everything.
Learn how to deal with stress without changing your behaviour. It’s not always possible to answer all questions in the correct manner. Don’t lose your cool and don’t be demoralised if the interview isn’t going the way you wanted it to. Just go with the flow and give it your best shot.

Maintain proper eye contact.
In a research it was found that 67% of interviewees fail to maintain adequate eye contact. Maintaining proper eye contact is essential since it shows that you are confident. A candidate who looks straight in the interviewer’s eye will be appraised as more confident than a candidate who looks at the floor or at the ceiling and avoids eye contact. But don’t stare or gaze hard at the IO. Look at their eyes long enough to notice what colour they are.

Chewing gum before the interview
Researchers from St. Lawrence University found that gum-chewing benefits working memory, episodic memory and general information-processing speed. The chewing motion makes it easier to focus and concentrate. Chewing some gum before the interview may help you focus, remember important information and it helps to combat the stress and nervousness. Don’t forget to spit the gum out before entering the interview room!

Download:

Smile!
While entering the room, greeting the IO, thanking him or listening to him, keep your smile on. Smiling from time to time (wherever appropriate) makes you feel more relaxed and cheerful. Smiling indicates that you are cheerful and connect with people easily.

Posture
Stand up straight, avoid slouching, keep your hands out of pockets, and head held up high. It’s not just a cliché — you literally feel better.

Dress smartly.
If your clothes create an initial unfavourable impression, you’ll have trouble neutralising it during the interview. If you look good, you feel good; and if you feel good, you’ll do well.

Etiquettes.
Manners and courtesy help in tilting the direction of the interview in your favour. Before entering the room, gently knock on the door. You can politely ask if you can come in- enter only when you are asked to, with confidence. Wish those present as per the time of the day. Wait till you are asked to sit and thank the person who asks you to sit down. While answering questions, be respectful and say ‘sir’, however excessive use of the word ‘sir’ must be avoided.

Believe in yourself.
The interview revolved around you; therefore, it is you and your performance that matters. Keep telling yourself that you have ‘it’ in you and believe in it. Don’t be nervous and don’t get intimated by the personality and the aura of the IO.

Express your emotions.
Use your emotions to allow the IO to have a better understanding of yourself. Describe your feelings as and when appropriate. Avoid extreme emotions such as anger, sentiments, etc. Use your body language as a part of your emotional expression. Avoid giving political opinions. Remember, armed forces are always apolitical and above board.13 Psychological Life Hacks To Clear The Interview

Be truthful
Credibility, once lost is hard to regain. You want to portray yourself as morally trustworthy since your reputation is at stake. Be respectful towards the other person with whom you’re speaking and be sensitive towards others’ feelings.

Positive thinking.
Having a positive mindset is vital. Positive thinking helps in combating negative thoughts, it elevates one’s mood and it helps us to focus on the bright side of life. It motivates us towards success. Being optimistic in the face of challenges is a positive trait that will help a candidate in the interview.

While you are waiting for your interview to start, keep these tips in mind as they will help you combat stress and anxiety.
