15 Greatest War Movies Dialogues

2

We all have watched many war movies, no doubt these movies are meant for entertainment purposes but on the other hand they show us the truth and realities of war, the way our real life heroes face it and commit a selfless and heroic act in order to protect our nation. And the dialogues play a major role in such movies, people often get impressed not only by actions but also by how the heroes sound just before or after their actions and that exerts more influence over people.

Here, we brought to you some of most memorable lines from the classic films of War Movie History ever:

  1. Brig. Gen. Norman Cota, ‘The Longest Day’: “Only two kinds of people are gonna stay on this beach: those that are already dead and those that are gonna die. Now get off your butts. You guys are the Fighting 29th.”
  2. Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore, ‘Apocalypse Now’: “I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn’t find one of ’em, not one stinkin’ dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like…victory. Someday this war’s gonna end…”
  3. Maverick, ‘TopGun’: “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you”
  4. Capt. John Miller, ‘Saving Private Ryan’: “I just know that every man I kill, the farther away from home I feel.”
    15 Greatest War Movies Dialogues
  5. Gen George Patton, ‘Patton’: “Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.”
  6. Hoot, ‘Black Hawk Down’: “When I get home people will ask me, “Hey Hoot, why do you do it man? Why? You some war junkie?” You know what I’ll say? I won’t say a god damn word. Why? They won’t understand. They won’t understand why we do it. They won’t understand that it’s about the men next to you, and that’s it. That’s all it is.”
  7. Capt. Benjamin Willard, ‘Apocalypse Now’: “In a war there are many moments for compassion and tender action. There are many moments for ruthless action – what is often called ruthless – what may in many circumstances be only clarity, seeing clearly what there is to be done and doing it, directly, quickly, awake, looking at it”
  8. Admiral Yamamoto, ‘Pearl Harbor’: “A brilliant man will find a way not to fight a war.”
  9. Odysseus, ‘Troy’: “War is young men dying and old men talking.”
  10. ‘Black Hawk Down’, Screen Title: “Only the dead have seen the end of war.”
  11. Joseph Galloway, ‘We Were Soldiers’: “We, who have seen war, will never stop seeing it. In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams.”
  12. Hector, ‘Troy’: “All my life I’ve lived by a code; and the code is simple: Honor the gods, love your woman, and defend your country. Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!”
  13. James Bradley, ‘Flags of Our Fathers’: “Heroes are something we create, something we need. It’s a way for us to understand what is almost incomprehensible how people could sacrifice so much for us, but for my dad and these men the risks they took, the wounds they suffered, they did that for their buddies, they may have fought for their country but they died for their friends.”
  14. Sunil Shetty, ‘Border’: “Hum toh Kisi doosre ki dharti par nazar bhi nahi dalte … lekin itne nalayak bachche bhi nahi hai … ki koi hamari dharti maa par nazar daale aur hum chup chap dekhte rahe.”
  15. Jackie Shroff, ‘Border’: “The more you sweat in peace … the less you bleed in war”
  16. Sunny Deol, ‘Border’: “pehli goli woh chalayega… Aur aakhri goli hum”
  17. Sunny Deol, ‘Border’: “woh kehte hai subah ka khana jaiselmer mein karange dopahar ka khana Jodhpur mein karenge or raat ka khana Delhi mein karenge lekin aaj hum unka naashta karenge, guru maharaj ne kaha hai ek khalsa sawa lakh ke barabar hota hai aaj unki baat sach kar dikhane ka waqt aa gaya hai.”
  18. Kay Kay Menon, ‘Shaurya’: “Border pe marne se zyada bada nasha koi nahin hai”

Navy; 33 SSB Bhopal; PC NAIC- Recommended on 17th Dec, 2013 and joining INA on 27th Jun 2014. Air Force; 4 AFSB Varanasi; PC AE (L) – Conference Out on 14th April, 2014. Army; 24 SSB Bangalore; PC TGC-119- Recommended on 7th May, 2014. Three attempts overall with a recommendation percentage of 66.67 % (:P). Well, I have taken a lot of cues from the group, so before joining the academy it’s my duty to tell my perspective and introspection towards SSB.

  1. Screening: Notice the image properly and write the most positive story, but don’t over force it. You can inculcate any story that has happened with you or you have heard, read or seen it. During discussion, tell your story very clearly and affirmatively. Listen to other’s stories as well. Don’t force your story; try to zero in on the story base which has come from majority. Put your points strongly, try to speak at least 2-3 times and such that other listen to you and agrees with you. If they agree with you, that’s a huge advantage.
  2. Psychology: According to me, the most important part of 5 day process as everything else can be changed but not the psych atleast in short time. Write positive stories only in TAT (for 11 images). For the 12th image, please come prepare beforehand. Prepare a story (which should be related to you somehow and shows some qualities of you) before coming to SSB. 12th story plays a huge role in your assessment. Write positive sentences in WAT and complete all. Write short sentences of 4-6 words only. Write short replies in SRT and complete all. Prepare SD before coming to SSB. Introspect yourself and get your goods and bads from all as mentioned in the SD. Don’t show only your good aspect, show your shortcomings as well and also write in a line how you are trying to deal with it. Be aware of what you write in SD, because it should reflect in your PIQ as well, else Interviewer will screw you.
Recommended for Indian Navy and Army
  3. GTO: As earlier said, in GD; put your points strongly, try to speak number of times and such that other listen to you and agrees with you. If they agree with you, that’s a huge advantage. Avoid cancelling much to other’s point as it is a GD not a debate; try to add points on the other’s ideas. Involve in all the group tasks, even if u feel blank, try to help the group in whatever way.  Try to asses tasks in GPE and rank them as per their urgency. Try to use all the resources in best way. Listen to everyone and give your points strongly. Time is of a great essence in this. Choose your leader such that he is calm and composed. For IOs, don’t hurt yourself trying to do more. Doing 6-8 is enough but don’t show hesitation in attempting any obstacle. Make your sequence of obstacles and put the hardest one according to you for last. For Command task, think for a minute and constantly try for a solution.
  4. Interview: This has to be a part where one can impress the officer a lot. If u do well here, it will surely help your performance overall. Firstly, lots of people say, be truthful but I deny that. You can put lies in between the lines but he assessor are highly experienced, so even if they catch you, one should be able to make way out from there. So, if you try this; it’s upto you. Try to reflect yourself of what you have written in your Psych test and PIQ. Don’t get friendly with the interview. He might seem very friendly and jolly, but you should control your emotions and remain balanced while answering. Answer only what you know and be bit frank when he asks about gf, sex and porn (for boys). He will constantly do something to distract you, but your composure out in that room is very important. Smile all the time and present your cheerfulness to the assessors.
  5. Conference: Wish properly to President and then again answer cheerfully to any SRT or question, if asked to you. Again wish back and come out of room.
All these are my perspectives regarding and what I have observed in my SSB’s. But, let me tell you whether a person is recommended once or for 10th time; he doesn’t what happens in the room or how the assessor think. So, give your best and most importantly enjoy your stay out there. It will be one of the best days of your life. You will make friends and will take lot of memories from SSB centre.
All the best and wish to see lot of others to achieve their dream to be a part of INDIAN ARMED FORCES.

How To Tackle Fish Market Situation in Group Discussion

1

Aspirants! One of the most confusing and scary part of SSB are the GD’s. As soon as your SSB testing starts, you have to face a GD. There are total four times when you have to face GD in SSB. In your stage one testing as a part of your screen test you have to go through a GD, in the stage two testing you have to go through two GD’s and a GD in Group planning exercise as well so making a total of four. The biggest reason why most of us are uncertain and sacred of GD is the situation of fish market. A fish market situation occurs when everybody in the group has enough intelligence and material to speak on the given topic but no common sense to understand that they’ll have to shut up to let others speak. I myself have faced such GD’s where the situation of fish market had rised and I couldn’t help but smile. The reason why the fish market situation is funny because everybody generally keeps on saying that “Please let us speak one by one”, “Please let chest number so and so speak”, “Please calm down and give your points one by one”. So basically everybody is speaking the same thing but nobody is heard!

SSB Group Discussion

In this article I’ll be giving some tips which might come handy when you are caught in a fish market situation in the GD:

  1. Do not at all panic, especially in the PPDT GD. Many candidates panic that they are not able to speak hence they’ll not get selected, so they start shouting to give their points. But think wisely, you’ll be only adding up to the chaos when you speak together.
  2. Never speak anything when the whole group is shouting. Keep quiet and just watch them. Soon enough the assessors will ask the group to stop, if the assessors don’t ask the group to stop, soon they’ll run out of energy and stop themselves. You only think for how long can 8-10 people shout together in a synchronized manner? Not long, right?
  3. The benefit of keeping quiet when everybody is shouting is twofold. One that you can think of points while they are busy in doing ‘thekedaari’ of ‘let chest no so and so speak’. Secondly you can just sneak out the perfect moment when their voice will be low and bang on! You can jump in the discussion with your relevant points.
  4. Never be a reason of nuisance, so never put your head in an already boiling situation. It is strictly not advised to speak when the whole group is shouting. You can once or twice say that ‘let us speak one by one’, but do not keep repeating it.
  5. Let others speak. This doesn’t means to ask everybody to keep quiet to let somebody who is not even ready, to speak. If anybody is speaking let them speak, do not interrupt unnecessarily. Listening is an art which you have to demonstrate there.
  6. In any GD speaking quantity is never important, but whatever you speak should be quality stuff. Speak only relevant things. Do not repeat what has already been said.
  7. Never rise up from your chair and do not use too many hand gestures which might look aggressive.
  8. The perfect posture is to sit straight in your chair. Have a smile on your face and look calm. You can use a little hand gesture but avoid it as far as possible.

What Should You Have to Clear SSB Interview

Though there are a lot you need to have for clearing the SSB but if a general and mild workout is done on yourself, you hold a better chance to do that. People are afraid of going to SSB because of the myth that exists in the market. The aspirants have the JOSH that is needed but when they start confirming on that part from other sources like friends, etc they get to hear a lot which might not be prevalent in the SSB premises.

SSB is just a simple test where you need to be yourself.
Speak frankly, is it a difficult task for any individual. We are the ones who know about ourself better than anyone else. We know the happenings of our life, we know what our habits are, we know how bad or good we can be in society and at most we know what we should change in ourself to be a good citizen. In SSB believe me you are just tested on these parameters.
No one will ask you questions you need to prepare beforehand or you need to do hard work for that. I accept, it is expected to be aware of the happenings around you, your country and the world, but is it not the responsibility of the youth to do so and suggest parameters that could lead to the betterment of our country.

What Should You Have to Clear SSB Interview

Rest SSB is a very simple exercise where the officers try to study the synchronisation between your mind, heart and body. If all three are properly synchronised you are the perfect choice for the forces. The various tests which conducted during your stint at SSB will test these three things only.
The screening test is just the gateway to check the mental health and to reduce the crowd and unwanted elements. The non – serious crowd is removed here.
The people who stay after getting screen in will be tested for their mind, body and heart. What does the three types of rounds test in you ? If you are aware of the facts I think this will help in better performance.
  1. GTO Round: The GTO round simply tests the action of body on the basis of your thought process which is generated in your mind and heart. Along with this it tests for your physical strengths which might be tested through snake race and other tasks . You might face similar situations while serving the nation so this is the perfect time to test that.
  2. The psychological rounds : They are designed so as to test the ability of thought process that goes in your mind while seeing the things . What and how you perceive different things as these might be different for individual. No answer is right or wrong here but when you answer remember to show the tone of positivity in your responses.
  3. Personal Interview: He will check how you are at heart. How much you reveal about yourself. Are you an introvert or an extrovert . Do you take time to gel around with people . This is the job where everyday you will face new difficulties altogether.
During the last day when all the officers/ assessors meet at conference they fight for the synchronisation that these three important part of your body will go through. You need to individually clear the cut-off for each round and each assessor should individually recommend you for getting selected finally. These tests are designed so that you hardly need to prepare or even if you prepare you will always face the new challenge. SSB are known to change the tests now and then so that only perfect people cross the boundary and get selected. Start preparing hard because its just a simple test and the result leads you to wonders.

What is the Importance of Emotional Intelligence?

5

The word ‘emotion’ means the spirit that moves us. That energy is the transmitter and recorder of all the feelings, thoughts and actions. It determines what we dream about, what we are drawn to, believe in and committed to. If we say that a person is ‘more intelligent’ than another, it can only mean that he/she acts more intelligently most of the time. Even the research has continually shown that grades at school or a high IQ cannot predict unerringly who will be successful and who will not be. It is because, no intelligence is more important than the interpersonal.

Now the question arises what exactly Emotional Intelligence is and what role it plays?   Emotional intelligence is basically a type of social intelligence which involves the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others for motivating ourselves and for managing emotion well in ourselves and in our relationship. Various characteristics makeup emotional intelligence such as self motivation, ability to control impulses regulates moods and keeps distress away from swamping the ability to think. Therefore, it can be concluded that emotional intelligence helps to enhance the ability to set a goal in life; work towards achieving it, negotiate it and feel empathetic towards others.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence helps to yield potential for learning practical skills such as:

  • Self-awareness: Self- regulation, Self-control, Trustworthiness, Conscientiousness, Adaptability, Innovation, Motivation, Achievement drive, Commitment
  • Empathy: Understanding others, Service orientation, Leveraging diversity, Political awareness.

How can emotional intelligence be developed?

Emotional intelligence can be developed by developing self- awareness, personal decision making, managing feelings, handling stress, empathy, communication, self disclosure, insight, self –acceptance, personal responsibility, assertiveness, group dynamics and conflict resolution. However, there are many ways to enhance emotional intelligence such as:

  • By observing good role models like teachers, parents, etc. one can gradually learn how to analyze and cope with life.
  • Direct reading classes on personality development, value education, etc
  • Reading personality improvement books and articles are quite helpful.
  • One can learn from his/ her own life experiences if he/she is introspective.
  • By attending workshops and seminars on personality development.
  • Media programs can be very informative and educative.
  • The positive aspect of religion can offer a lot of solace and guidance.

Cornerstones of Emotional intelligence:

  • Emotional Literacy: This involves developing a clear and useful vocabulary, for emotional literacy and recognizing respecting and valuing the inherent wisdom of feelings. This can be done through monitoring thoughts and feeling; self- observation, paying careful attention to get feelings etc.
  • Emotional Fitness: Emotional fitness refers to those qualities that illuminate our personal values and character and the feeling that enliven and drive them. If you are genuine about your accessibility, other will trust you and you will stand out from the management crowd.
  • Emotional Depth: Emotional depth calls forth ones core character. It is the manifestation of a person’s commitment, drive, initiative, conscience, and accountability. Emotional depth can be developed by including self-awareness, assertiveness, empathy, communication, and by referring the role model.
  • Emotional Alchemy: It is blending of forces that enable us to discover creative opportunities and transform lesser ideas into greater ones. It is emotional alchemy through which we extend our creative instincts and capacity to flow with problems and pressure and to fight for the future. Myths and Realities of SSB Interview

1

Myths and Realities of SSB Interview

SSB is totally different from what you might hear others saying about it. Here we will be discussing the difference in what SSB really is and what you hear about it. People who have attended SSB brag it differently when they move out of the centre and these talks could deflate the motivation of new aspirants or fresher’s that have cleared the initial rounds and are waiting for their calls of SSB.  Please remember SSB is an altogether different world and it changes the personality of the person completely. When an individual goes and when he comes back even if by not getting recommended he/she is a change personality. Spending five days in that environment which shows you a bit of the lifestyle of an officer gives you energy that this is the life that a real aspirant wants.

Let’s see what are the myths and the realities:

  1. You are under observation 24*7 for five days: This is true that your each and every move is studied there by expert officers. But you can relax when you are there in your dorms or while in mess, but remember an officer must not forget to follow the rules when he is not under observation. So just follow the rules of the place completely.
  2. You cannot be in touch with your family: This might be rite that your mobiles are submitted in some centres because some centres are official workplaces of the defence people too. But the telephone facility is provided through STD booth and you can call whenever you are free within calling times.
  3. Facilities are not good at the centre: All the attendees of SSB are provided with the living accommodation, fooding facilities which might not be world class but yes you only tell me which selection test provides all the aspirants with these facilities. The food quality is good and you are provided with dorms where you share room with other aspirants. Each one is provided with bedding, almirah also.
    SSB+Interview
  4. If you spend more time in conference your selection is sure: This is not true. Time might be taken to discuss various parameters on the candidate and it is nowhere related to the final result.  I would only suggest giving your best in every round which will automatically fetch good results.
  5. If GTO gives a tough individual task you are high in his eyes: This is partially right but the GTO assesses individual for overall performance as all the rounds are designed to assess full personality of the person. Any singly round if accompanied with a good performance might not lead to your recommendation.
  6. You should attend all questions in Psychology: Psychology rounds have many subparts and it is a perfect time bound test, so according to me you should try to do all but if not possible to attempt all then give your best shot in whatever you attempt. You will be judged by how you attempt. You will be judged by the quality and not by the quantity. So try accordingly.
  7. You can speak whatever you want in Interview if you are smart: Believe me whosoever is judging you are far smarter than you and they will catch you like anything. So be yourself as the same set of question or qualities would be judged by different assessors though different questions and if caught at one place you will be thrown out.
So just follow the set of norms, be yourself and get selected . It is this simple only.

Medicals Experience at AFCME (New Delhi)

1
AFCME Medical Test Full Procedure

Hi all. This blog is about my experience at AFCME(New Delhi). We had a briefing there about what all documents would be required and soon all the students were taken to the registration desk. We were given accommodation in Camero officer’s mess.

The medical examination takes 3-4 “working days” at AFCME Delhi. Please make sure that there is no holiday within 3 days of the date you choose for the medicals.
PS: I had to wait for 2 days for my medical conference (Saturday and Sunday) though all the tests were over.
Now let me share my own experience.
Day 1:
The first 2-3 hours was spent in form filling and after that we (group of 5) were asked to wait in the cafeteria. After some time we were called for document verifications. After the verification was over, the following things were noted down:
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Chest
That’s all.
The hospital timings were upto 3:00 pm so after that we went back to the Camero officer’s mess where we were given accommodation.
Day 2:
The following tests were done on the second day.
  • Ultrasound: We were asked to report at 7:00 am without having anything for breakfast. Ultrasound
    SSB+Interview+medical+letter

was the first test that day to check for any abnormalities (fatty liver problem is very common for those who eat oily foods or drink alcohol)

  • Blood Test: If your weight is normal then the blood sample would be taken only once but if it’s not (over weight/underweight), you will be made to drink a glass of glucose and then come back after 2 hours to give the sample again. (This is to check whether your body is able to break down glucose effectively or not). PS: Since I was “only” 17 kgs over weight, I had to give the sample twice.
  • X-Ray: We were asked to stand, sit, and lie down in different positions to check for any broken or abnormality in the bone structure of the body. (In this case there were few candidates who had a problem with the elbow angle)
  • Eye test: This is the most time exhausting test of all. The following are the tests which were done  to check our eyes
  • Color Combination: We were asked to stand in a dark room and there was a lantern with a hole in it. Colors were flashed through the hole and we were asked to identify the color. There were three colors: Red, green and white. This test is to check for the color blindness. PS: White color might appear as yellow and I did say yellow for the first time and then I was asked by the officer to calm down and answer patiently. Probably it was because of the excitement.
  • Distant Vision: This one is a routine test and we were made to read letters which were placed at a distance of 20 meters.
  • Pupil Dilation: We were given an eye drop and asked to put them in our eyes thrice at an interval of 15 minutes so that our pupil gets dilated to the fullest. After an hour we were called one by one and our eyes were tested with an instrument they had. PS: After putting the eye drops you wouldn’t be able to see clearly for the next 2 hours or so. And do take sun glasses to the hospital as you might be asked to go back to the mess after this test in the sunlight (This is what happened to us and trust me it was very difficult to even open our eyes.) With this the second day ended and we went back to our mess.
Day 3:
ENT
  • Ear: There was some pressure check in the ear and after that we were given a head phone and a bell. We were asked to press the bell each time we heard a beep through the ear phone. The beeps were of varying frequencies and some were very faint and therefore one needs to be extremely careful during this test.
  • PS: Get your ear wax removed before going for the medicals otherwise they wouldn’t even let you take this test. This will extend your stay at the AFCME and waste your time.
  • Ear, nose and throat: The entire normal checkup was done and then we went for lunch in the cafeteria.
  • Surgical: Now comes the part which all of us were praying didn’t take place. Anyways it did and the following is what happened. We were asked to take off our shirts and trousers and wait for our turn. We were called inside a room one by one and were examined by a doctor. Knock knees, B.P, any surgery marks and private parts were examined by the doctor.
  • Dental: We were taken to a different hospital for the dental checkup as the experts are not available at AFCME. They check for proper number of dental points and if there is any abnormality. In our group  a guy was declared unfit because he had open bite or close bite.
  • ECG: This took 5-10 minutes.Sitting length, thigh length (for flying branch  only). This was our last test and it was over within 15 minutes.
Medicals Experience At AFCME (New Delhi)
The time was 2:45 pm and since our files could not be compiled in such a short span of time (the President leaves at 3:00 pm) we were told that our medical conference will be held on the next working day. And since I did not have much idea I had chosen Wednesday as my date and hence we all had to wait till Monday for the results.
On Monday we had our conference at 11:00 am. I was given TR for the following reasons:
  • Over weight
  • Deranged LFT
  • Right eye myopic (6/9)
PS: The myopic thing was a human error and I was told by the president that I would clear it in the appeal medical board.
So I applied for the appeal medical board and I got a call exactly after 30 days and had to report at the base hospital. In the 30 days, I had reduced 17 kgs and since the other two problems were minor (maybe error also) were also solved.
I was declared medically fit for all the branches of IAF.
Advice:
  • Be patient as you might have to wait for even hours for your turn to come.
  • Listen to the instructions carefully otherwise you might piss off the doctors which is not good for you.
