The Indian Army has officially released the much-anticipated notification for the 66th Short Service Commission (Technical) Men and 37th Short Service Commission (Technical) Women courses, scheduled to commence in April 2026 at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. This prestigious opportunity invites applications from unmarried male and female engineering graduates, as well as widows of defence personnel who died in service, to join the Indian Army as commissioned officers in the technical branches.

The online application window is now open on the official website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in and will remain active until August 14, 2025, at 3:00 PM. No application fee is required for submitting the online form.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:
Applicants must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before Jan 1, 1962, or
  • A person of Indian origin from select countries with a certificate of eligibility.

Age Limit (as on April 1, 2026):

  • SSC Tech Men/Women: 20 to 27 years (born between April 2, 1999, and April 1, 2006)
  • Widows of Defence Personnel: Up to 35 years

Educational Qualification:

  • SSC Tech Men/Women: B.E./B.Tech in the relevant engineering stream or final-year students (with proof of passing by April 1, 2026)
  • Widows (Tech): B.E./B.Tech in any stream
  • Widows (Non-Tech): Graduation in any discipline

Marital Status:

  • Tech Entries: Unmarried
  • Widows Entry: Eligible regardless of current marital status

Selection Process

Shortlisting: Based on aggregate engineering marks and cut-off percentage

SSB Interview: Five-day assessment at SSB centers in Allahabad, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Kapurthala. It includes:

Stage I: OIR Test and PPDT

Stage II: Psychological tests, GTO tasks, and Personal Interview

Medical Examination: Only for those who clear the SSB

Merit List: Based on SSB performance and medical fitness

Final Joining: As per order of merit and availability of vacancies

Training and Commissioning

  • Duration: 49 weeks at OTA Chennai
  • Stipend During Training: ₹56,100 per month
  • Commissioned Rank: Lieutenant on successful completion
  • Post-Training Qualification: PG Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies (University of Madras)

Service Tenure:

  • Initial term: 10 years
  • Extension: Up to 4 years
  • Option for Permanent Commission (PC) after 10 years, subject to eligibility

Pay and Allowances

  • Pay Level 10: ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500
  • Military Service Pay (MSP): ₹15,500 per month
  • Other Benefits:

    • Education and Transport Allowances
    • Pension, Gratuity, and Insurance

Promotion Timeline

  • Lieutenant: On commissioning
  • Captain: 2 years of service
