CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average and it is an average of grade points obtained on all the subjects or semesters. But, it may also confuse engineering students on whether they need to fill CGPA for all semesters or for individual semester.

It is quite confusing actually, in TGC online application form one need to put CGPA for each individual semester. Not only that, candidates having CGPA structure, need to convert their grades in marks. • Check your university website, you may find more details on CGPA to marks conversion.
  • Follow the standard CGPA to Marks conversion key.

How to Convert CGPA to Marks ( first read the disclaimer below)

CGPA/DGPA to Marks :
Let:
CGPA/DGPA obtained in 1st Semester = 9.42
CGPA/DGPA obtained in 2nd Semester = 8.74
CGPA/DGPA obtained in 3rd Semester = 9

Conversion:
Sem I  = 9.42 X 9.5 = 89.49

Sem III= 9 X 9.5 = 85.5

CGPA to Equivalent Percentage

  • 4-point credit system, the procedure is CGPA*18+20 = Equivalent percentage
    • If CGPA is 3.00, then the equivalent percentage = 3.00*18+30=74%
  • 10-point grading system, the procedure is CGPA*9.3 = Equivalent percentage
    • If CGPA is 9.00 then the equivalent percentage = 9.00*9.3=83.

    which one should i follow.

  5. Thanks for the information but just for the correction, the first semester grade point average and the cumulative average are same (only in the first semester), so bit confusion…Anyways more important concern for 118 is the reprinting and submission of forms as the dates are nearing…!!!
