Selection method used for recommendation in SSB Interview

ssb interview selection method

Hi all Defence aspirants, do you know that what selection method is used to recommend a candidate in SSB? If No then I am giving the information on the selection procedure of the candidate in SSB Interview. Normally SSB is fully confidential and nobody knows that who is going to get recommend and who is not, except assessors. But if any candidate belonging to an armed force officer family which has worked in SSB then he/she can tell you the exact method of selection.

I belong to a Defence background and my grand-father (My mother’s uncle) was Late Lt. Col. He told me the whole process of selection which I am discussing with all of you. It is mention below:

During the SSB Testing’s included Psychology, GTO and Interview the Assessors divided all the candidates in five Grade groups such as:
A, B, C, D, E

Now after it they give marks to the candidate in respect to their performance and on behalf of their performance Assessors distributed the candidates in above Grade groups.

SSB Marks of Grade Groups:

  • If the candidate gets more than 80% marks then he/she in Group A or B.
  • If the candidate gets 60% to 80% marks then he/she in Group C or D.
  • If the candidate gets less than 60% marks then he/she in Group E.

Conditions for Recommendation

So there are three conditions for recommendation or not recommendation such as:
  • If candidate in Group A or B then technically he/she is not fit for training in armed forces because he/she is much talented and should go for higher jobs such as IAS, IPS, Scientists etc.
  • If candidate in Group E then he/she below standard and also not fit for training in armed forces.
  • If candidate in Group C or D then technically he/she fit for training in armed forces.
So only Group C or D candidates recommend in SSB.  Group C candidates are clearly recommended and Group D candidates are boundary line candidates. Hence, if any candidate wants to join armed forces as an officer then first understand that what SSB wants from you.

I hope this article is much useful for all those aspirants who are not aware the demands of SSB.

  1. sir, i completed B E in computer science.. my date of birth is 13/09/1990. can i apply under ground duty branch .. since my course subjects does not matches with th technical branch…

    • In this article, it is no where mentioned that person with 90% in academics falls under Group A. Here the author is talking about the Groups as per the assessments done by the board. Anyone with 90% marks or 50% marks can fall under any group based on his/her performance during SSB. Also this articles do not says that Army do not need intelligent candidates etc. They do need and they do recommend candidates as per their assessments and not just solely based on his/her marks or achievements in outside world. Though the article is not clear and leaves many questions behind but more or less it makes sense. Peace.

  3. Kindly, Don’t post such an article. I have a question for the person who wrote above article if Grade A and B candidates are more likely suited for IAS,IPS then how they get recommended for Armed forces.
Example : These days NIT , IIT students too get recommended
Don’t you consider them in Grade A or Grade B ????
Or don’t you think candidates of such wud top in OIR and Interview ?????
Last and the important thing although every task in SSB is assigned some mark but that does mean , it is the only way of assessment. Quality and Personality means a lot in armed forces.

    • You are absolutely correct. Someone is trying to spread half baked incorrect information. I have been an assessor in the SSB. Nothing like this exists…..for correct information can dial me at 9253377348.

      • If you have correct information then share it here. So that everyone get to know it. Please do not share your contact details here without out permission.

  4. most stupid article admin you need to delete this article tell me if the person is above average doing all his work properly being harwoking any work given to him he proves him self ..and never say no to any challange helps his frnd and have good thinking so according to this artile he is not fit for army airforce..this is a senseless article please do not entertain or justify what you are going to say in a proper langauge with good examples…

  5. Stupid article.Defence officers have one of best minds of india.Actually rejected candidates make this kind of lame excuses.Defence does’t requires candidates of IIts and IIMs to solve some tedious equations actually they want candidates having much better common sense who can act wisely in difficult practical situations which can’t be solved even by some so called iitians or some other geniuses.I can give you an example of what is called ineliigence and for this I would like to share my experience during 12 ssb bangalore.Where gto sir asked two candidates to shake hands and then told them to move one step backwards. Then he asked candidates that now how will they shake hands .a candidate replied that they will bend to 90 degree to reach each other’s hands and will shake it.GTO sir said, ok, if you move further one step backwards then how will you shake hands.Other candidate replied that we will shake hands by lying flat on the ground.GTO sir smiled and replied; gentlmen i asked to go backwards but i did’t tell that you can’t come forward to shake your hands.I can give you an another example ;you have heard of burma bridge.Do you know it’s history.During war a battalion of indian army had to cross a river but if they were crossed the river by swiming it then their ,shoes ,clothes weapons could have been defected. So a recruit took off his clothes and crossed the river and tied a rope to two trees situated at the opposite banks of river.Other soldiers crossed the river by crawling on the rope and one of the soldiers brought the clothes and weapon of first soldiers. This is called practical intelligence which most civilians lacks .To recruit the most intelligent candidates ssb takes verbal and non verbal test to check the problem solving ability of candidate.DEFENCE FORCES TAKES ONLY BRILLIANT AND INTELLIGENT CANDIDATES.
