What is NDA Exam

This post aims at clearing all doubts which candidates might have regarding the NDA Exam. This exam is taken to induct officers into the Army, Navy and Airforce. NDA Exam is an objective time exam which consists of papers from subjects like Mathematics, English and General Awareness. It is conducted twice a year and the conducting body is UPSC. The written test is followed by SSB, Medical Examination and all India Merit. Only Boys who have passed class 12th (Or are appearing) and meet the specified age criteria are eligible to sit in this exam. Below is a complete detail regarding the NDA examwhich will help to remove all confusion regarding NDA exam.

What is NDA Exam?

Well as mentioned earlier NDA exam is an objective type exam, which consists of two papers, one is fully of Math’s (300 Marks) and the other is of General Ability (600 Marks), the second is a mix of General Awareness, English, PCB etc. This exam is conducted twice a year.

Why should I give this exam?

To be a part of the Defence forces of India i.e. Army Navy and Airforce you must give this exam because this exam will give a chance to be a part of the Military at the earliest possible age. When you get selected you spend the three years getting trained to be an officer and also do you Graduation side by side, which is affiliated to JNU. After three years you are shifted to your respected academy, after getting trained there for a year more you get commissioned into the forces.
You can give this exam to be a part of:
  • First you can be a part of Nation Defense Academy (NDA Khadakwasla)
  • Army (Indian Military Academy is the training Academy)
  • Navy (Naval Academy)
  • Airforce (Airforce Academy)

Who can give NDA Exam?

If you are a boy, and are either appearing or have appeared in class 12th then you can give this exam. Provided you meet the certain age requirement as mentioned below and your board (Class 12th) results are out before commencement of the course of this exam.

NDA Notification and Exam Time

The notification is released in the months of June and December. The exam most likely happens in April and August.

Age Limit for NDA Exam

16 ½ to 19 ½  years as of first day of the month in which course is due to commence.

Educational Qualification

  1. For Army wing of National Defence Academy: 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
  2. For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy: A candidate must have passed 10+2 educational level with physics and mathematics subjects. Candidates who are appearing in the 12th class under the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent can also apply.

How to pass NDA Exam

NDA exam is a two stage process, you not only have to be good in studies and prepare well for the written exam, when you qualify the written exam you have to physically fit and smart to crack the interview i.e. the SSB (which is the trickiest). However to begin with you should first have the idea of the level of questions asked, for which you can refer to a good book and the previous year question paper. You have to be very quick in solving math, because the paper is not very tough, especially if you are preparing for any Engineering entrance, but good speed is required. Keep practicing running and jogging as well to keep yourself in good health for the SSB.

Try practicing you school books of 11th and 12th Math’s to begin with. You can refer to NDA/NA Examination by Tata Mc Graw Hill or Pathfinder for NDA by Arihant. Don’t forget to go for the solved papers.
