He announced the decision at Gogunda near Udaipur on the occasion of the 475th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap. It was celebrated by the Rajasthan state government with a grand event.

The move comes in line with the government’s decision this January to set up 17 new reserve battalions for J&K and Left Wing Extremism affected areas. It had included 5 battalions in Jammu and Kashmir, 3 in Chhattisgarh, 3 each in Jharkhand and Odisha and 2 in Maharashtra.

It had included 5 battalions in Jammu and Kashmir, 3 in Chhattisgarh, 3 each in Jharkhand and Odisha and 2 in Maharashtra.

The reserve battalion comes under the Home Ministry like the other paramilitary and reserve forces.

He said the government of India would never let the memory of the Rajput ruler fade from history who protected his dignity through valour and sacrifice and never bowed down to the Mughals.

The government had introduced the scheme of Indian Reserve Battalions in 1971 and so far, 153 battalions have been sanctioned to various states.

Of them, 144 have been raised and one battalion in Jharkhand has been converted into Specialized Indian Reserve Battalion.

Apart from this, he also announced a new Global Counter-Terrorism Centre at the Sardar Patel Police University in Jodhpur on the occasion and unveiled a statue of Maharana Pratap.
