The Territorial Army of India is currently inviting applications from gainfully employed Indian citizens, both male and female, for the position of Territorial Army Officers. To be eligible, applicants must be Indian citizens aged between 18 and 42 years, and meet stringent physical and medical standards. Educational qualifications require a minimum of 60% grades in B.Tech in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/IT & Telecom, or B.Sc in Computer Science/IT, with additional certifications in specialized fields such as web application security, red teaming operations, computer networks, cloud computing, or mobile app development.

Desirable qualifications include an M.Tech in Computer Science or Cyber Security and at least 2 years of experience in the cyber field. Itโ€™s important to note that current members of the Regular Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, GREF, Para Military, and similar forces are not eligible to apply for these positions.

Indian Army Cyber Warfare Team Eligibility

The Territorial Army of India is inviting applications from both male and female citizens who are gainfully employed, for the role of Territorial Army Officers. Hereโ€™s a summary of the key details:

  1. Vacancies: There are a total of 6 vacancies for civilian candidates. However, these numbers may change based on the organizational requirements.
  2. Eligibility Conditions:
    • Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens.
    • Age Limits: Candidates should be between 18 and 42 years old at the time of application.
    • Physical Standards: Applicants must be physically and medically fit in all respects.
    • Employment Status: Candidates must be gainfully employed.
  3. Educational Qualifications:
    • Essential Qualification Requirements (QRs):
      • A minimum of 60% grades in B.Tech in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/IT & Telecom, or B.Sc in Computer Science/IT from a recognized university.
      • Certification in at least one of the following fields:
        • Web application security and penetration testing (e.g., OSCP, OSEP, OSWA, OSWE).
        • Red Teaming Operations (e.g., CRTP, CRTE).
        • Computer Networks and Information System (e.g., CCNA, CEH, LPT).
        • Cloud Computing (e.g., Azure A 500, AWS Cloud Security Specialty).
        • Mobile Application Development (Android) with experience in Java/Kotlin/Flutter react Native.
    • Desirable Qualification Requirements (QRs):
      • An M.Tech in Computer Science or Cyber Security.
      • At least 2 years of work experience in the cyber field is preferred.

The Territorial Army of India is conducting a proficiency test and interview in January 2024, with exact dates to be communicated later. Applications are open from 20th November 2023 until 19th December 2023 (till 5:00 PM). Applications must be sent to the Directorate General Territorial Army, New Delhi, exclusively via India Post.

Territorial Army Cyber Warfare Test

Candidates must ensure they meet all eligibility criteria for the ASB Interview. The selection process comprises four phases:

  1. Phase I: Document Check and preparation of a merit list for the written test.
  2. Phase II: Written Test (100 Marks) with a qualification threshold of 60%. The syllabus includes various cybersecurity topics like network security, cryptography, cyber threat intelligence, and more.
  3. Phase III: Practical Test (100 Marks) in the form of a โ€˜Catch the Flagโ€™ event, focusing on different cybersecurity challenges. Candidates need to bring their personal laptops for this test.
  4. Phase IV: Interview (300 Marks) conducted by the Board of Officers at the Directorate General of Territorial Army.

Successful candidates will undergo a medical examination and police verification for final selection.

All desirous candidates can download Application Form (IAF (TA)-9 (Revised) Part โ€“ 1 & 2) from www.jointerritorialarmy.gov.in (FREE OF COST) 20 Nov 2023 onwards and send applications alongwith requisite documents to Directorate General Territorial Army, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, 4th Floor, โ€˜Aโ€™ Block, Ministry of Defence Office Complex, KG Marg, New Delhi โ€“ 110001.

  1. Written Test:
    • The syllabus encompasses a wide range of cybersecurity topics:
      • Network Security
      • Operating System Security
      • Cryptography and Encryption Techniques
      • Cyber Threat Intelligence
      • Incident Response and Handling
      • Penetration Testing
      • Secure Coding Practices
      • Cyber Laws and Regulations
      • Log Analysis and Forensics
      • Network Forensics
      • Audits and Compliance
      • Vulnerability Assessment
      • Wireless Penetration Testing
      • Wireless Networks Security
      • Cloud Security
      • Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security
      • Social Engineering Attacks and Countermeasures
      • Mobile Application Security
      • Threat Modelling and Risk Assessment
      • Malware Analysis and Detection
      • Social Media Security

  2. Practical Test:
    • This will take the form of a โ€˜Catch the Flagโ€™ (CTF) event, focusing on solving challenges in various domains:
      • Threat Intelligence (Open Source Intelligence โ€“ OSINT)
      • Cryptography
      • Web Application Security
      • Forensics
      • Reverse Engineering
      • Malware Analysis
      • Network Incident Response
    • Candidates are required to use their personal laptops for the CTF event.
    • The practical test will assess candidatesโ€™ technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and time management.
    • Internet connectivity will be provided to all candidates by the conducting team.

Candidates should prepare accordingly for both the written and practical components of the test to ensure a comprehensive understanding and proficiency in these critical cybersecurity areas.

  1. Pre-Commission Training:
    • Candidates undergo six months of Pre-Commission Training as per TA Rule 20A, amended vide SRO 65 dated 29th April 2023.
    • Commissioning in the Territorial Army is contingent upon the successful completion of this training.
  2. Annual Training Camp:
    • There is a mandatory two-month annual training camp each year, unless the candidate is continuously embodied for six months in a training year (01 April โ€“ 31 March).

Terms and Conditions of Service:

  1. Nature of Service:
    • The Territorial Army is a part-time commitment with a mandatory two-month training annually and does not offer a full-time career.
  2. Pension and Benefits:
    • Service in the Territorial Army does not automatically entail a pension, which is subject to the duration of embodied service as per the organizational requirements.
  3. Rank and Commission:
    • Upon commission, candidates are granted the rank of Lieutenant.
  4. Pay and Allowances:
    • Pay and allowances, as well as privileges, are equivalent to those of Regular Army Officers when embodied for training and military service.
  5. Promotions:
    • Promotions up to Lieutenant Colonel are based on a time scale, provided specific criteria are met.
    • Promotions to the ranks of Colonel and Brigadier are by selection.

These guidelines highlight the structured approach to training and the clear terms of service within the Territorial Army, emphasizing its role as a part-time commitment with specific training and promotion protocols.
