An unfortunate road accident in the early hours of Saturday in Jalandhar led to the death of an Army officer, Lieutenant Akshat, and left another, Captain Yuvraj Chaudhary, critically injured.
The incident took place near the T-point of Narangpur village close to Patara. The officers, belonging to the 18 Sikh Regiment, were returning to Jalandhar Cantonment from a firing range in their personal car when the accident occurred around 2:30 am.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Jeevan Singh, the investigating officer, informed the media that dense fog was a contributing factor to the tragedy.
The vehicle reportedly swerved and overturned, leading to severe injuries for both officers.
While Lieutenant Akshat, a native of Hisar, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, Captain Yuvraj Chaudhary from Nagaur in Rajasthan is currently battling for his life in a military hospital.
The incident has cast a somber mood over the region, highlighting the perils of road travel under poor visibility conditions.
