On December 13, 2023, more than 800 tourists, including the elderly, women, and children, found themselves trapped in the high-altitude regions of East Sikkim due to sudden snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
In response, the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army promptly initiated a rescue operation. These soldiers, demonstrating commendable quick action, not only helped move the tourists to safer areas but also offered them shelter, warm clothing, medical support, and hot meals.
Remarkably, the soldiers even vacated their own barracks to ensure adequate accommodation for those affected.
The effective and swift response of the troops brought much-needed relief and comfort to those caught in the adverse weather. The rescued tourists expressed profound thanks to the Army for their timely and compassionate aid.
The Indian Army, known for its vigilant border protection in the extremely high-altitude zones of the Himalayas, continues to show a strong commitment to assisting tourists and the local populace in times of need.
