Havildar Rohit Kumar of the Dogra Scouts, who tragically went missing during a mountain expedition to Mount Kun in Kargil in October 2023, was honored posthumously in his hometown of Taranda, Himachal Pradesh.
After an avalanche struck during route opening activities, Hav Rohit Kumar was unaccounted for until his mortal remains were recovered by the search and rescue teams from the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), Gulmarg.
The teams successfully retrieved his remains from the icy slopes of Mount Kun after a challenging nine-month search.
The braveheart was paid homage with full military honors, reflecting the nation’s deep gratitude for his service and sacrifice. The ceremony saw a significant turnout, with several veterans and local community members attending to pay their respects to the fallen hero.
The presence of these individuals underscored the collective mourning and respect for Hav Rohit Kumar, who is remembered for his bravery and dedication to duty.
