Indian Navy to Showcase Operational Might with Grand Demonstration at Puri's Blue Flag Beach on December 4, 2024

The Indian Navy is gearing up for a spectacular operational demonstration at Puri’s Blue Flag Beach, scheduled for December 4, 2024, coinciding with the observance of Navy Day. This year’s event holds special significance as it commemorates the anniversary of Operation Trident, a pivotal naval offensive during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The ceremony will be attended by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, who will serve as the Chief Guest, further elevating the event’s stature.

Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, is hosting the event, which is set to showcase the Indian Navy’s advanced capabilities and its steadfast dedication to protecting India’s maritime interests. The demonstration will unite the Indian Army’s Mechanised Infantry with the Navy’s maritime forces, illustrating the crucial collaboration between the two services. This joint amphibious operational display will highlight the significance of integrated force operations, especially in coastal regions where land and sea tactics converge.

Amphibious operations, key elements of modern military strategy, will be the focus of the day’s events. These complex undertakings entail moving a landing force from naval vessels to a hostile shore to establish a secure position for strategic objectives. The Puri demonstration will encompass the essential phases of such operations—planning, embarkation, rehearsal, movement, and assault—delivering an insightful view of how both naval and ground forces coordinate efforts in real-time combat scenarios.

On the day, attendees can expect to see a formidable showing with over 15 ships, submarines, and more than 40 aircraft in action. Advanced military assets, including MiG-29K and Hawk fighter jets, will partake in the display alongside exhilarating combat exercises by Marine Commandos (MARCOS). Live demonstrations of submarine operations, amphibious landings, and naval rocket fire will provide a compelling glimpse into the Navy’s cutting-edge technology and its operational efficiency in geographically challenging environments.

Ahead of this grand showcase, Admiral Tripathi voiced critical concerns regarding regional maritime security, particularly the burgeoning capabilities of Pakistan’s navy. He noted the alarming expansion plans for the Pakistan Navy, which aims to develop a 50-ship fleet with substantial assistance from China. This includes the construction of eight Hangor-class submarines, a deal reportedly finalized in 2015 for $5 billion. With the first vessel scheduled for launch in April 2024, this strategic partnership poses a significant challenge to India’s naval superiority in the region, prompting a renewed focus on strengthening India’s own maritime capabilities.

The day’s proceedings will conclude with a Beating Retreat Ceremony performed by the Eastern Naval Command Band, followed by precision drills and a breathtaking drone and laser show. This blend of ceremonial and military displays will honor the Navy’s rich traditions and legacy.

In preparation for the event, the Navy has collaborated closely with the Odisha state government to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place. Comprehensive traffic advisories have been disseminated, with designated parking available for visitors. Attendees are encouraged to maintain cleanliness at Blue Flag Beach, adhering to safety protocols which prohibit the flying of drones, kites, or other similar objects. Rehearsals for naval aircraft flyovers and other operations are already in progress in Puri, ensuring a seamless execution of the demonstration on the day.
