A wave of grief and pride swept through Khetri in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district as the mortal remains of Indian Air Force Corporal Vijendra Yadav were brought home on Monday. The 26-year-old air warrior tragically lost his life during a recreational outing with fellow servicemen at Keoti Waterfall in Madhya Pradesh on June 29. While swimming, he was swept away by a strong current. Despite desperate attempts by his comrades to rescue him, Vijendra could not be saved. His body was recovered the following morning, on June 30.
Corporal Yadav, born in 1999, was the eldest of three brothers and a source of inspiration for his entire family. He joined the Indian Air Force in 2019, fulfilling a lifelong dream of wearing the uniform and serving the nation. In February this year, on the 25th, he began a new chapter in life with his marriage. He was posted in Prayagraj at the time of his passing.
His village paid an emotional tribute on July 1, when his remains were brought back draped in the national flag. A Tiranga Rally was held in his honor, with hundreds of locals holding the tricolor, chanting patriotic slogans, and remembering his selfless service to the motherland.
Vijendra’s dedication to duty had inspired his younger brothers, who now vow to follow in his footsteps and serve in the armed forces. His loss is deeply felt not only by his family but by the entire village, which now regards him as a martyr who gave his all for the nation—even off the battlefield.
“He always dreamt big, lived for the nation, and wanted us to do the same,” said a grieving family member. “He will forever remain our pride.”
Though gone too soon, Corporal Vijendra Yadav’s legacy will endure—as a brother, a soldier, and a son of India who inspired others with his patriotism, bravery, and unwavering spirit.
