A large-scale, two-day mock drill has been launched across Delhi by the Delhi Police to assess the city’s preparedness in the event of a terror attack. The drill, which began Thursday and will continue through Friday, is being conducted at more than ten high-visibility locations including Hindu College, GTB Metro Station, Palika Bazar, AIIMS, Lotus Temple, Venkateswara College, Vegas Mall, DLF Emporia, and Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to senior police officials, the drill will test response mechanisms, inter-agency coordination, and crisis containment strategies across multiple urban environments. Organised by the Delhi Police Special Cell, the exercise involves a wide array of agencies, including local police, traffic units, PCR teams, SWAT commandos, the CISF, fire services, health departments, civil defence volunteers, and Resident Welfare Associations.

The simulation is designed to mimic real-life scenarios of coordinated terror attacks. During the exercise, incident command posts are being established at each location, and response teams will execute defensive evacuations, hostage rescue operations, screening of suspects, and secondary explosive device checks.

Officials confirmed that the drills are being directed from the Central Police Control Room, which will send alerts to respective units and observe response times and effectiveness. CISF units are overseeing Metro station security simulations, while SWAT and Special Cell operatives are tasked with forming the inner cordons at sensitive sites.

The initiative comes amid heightened concerns about urban security and the need to ensure rapid response in the face of evolving threats. Similar drills have recently been conducted in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.

Delhi Police urged the public to remain calm and cooperative during the drills, and not to fall prey to rumours or misinformation. The objective, officials stated, is to strengthen collective readiness and sharpen the city’s capacity to manage emergencies swiftly and effectively.
