Indian Army Pays Tribute to Havildar Iqbal Ali Who Laid Down His Life in Kupwara

Kupwara, known for its volatile terrain and strategic importance, continues to witness frequent infiltration attempts and border skirmishes. Havildar Ali’s sacrifice highlights the dangers faced by soldiers deployed in the sector to safeguard the nation’s frontiers.

In a solemn ceremony, the Chinar Corps, headquartered in Srinagar, honored the bravery and dedication of the fallen soldier. The Army also assured full support to his bereaved family, reflecting its tradition of standing firmly with the kin of martyrs.

The Chinar Corps has a long and distinguished history, tracing its origins to World War I in 1916 and re-establishment in 1948 after India’s independence. Since then, it has remained at the forefront of operations in the Kashmir Valley, from wars with Pakistan and China to continuous counter-terrorism and counter-infiltration operations.

Havildar Iqbal Ali’s sacrifice comes just months after a similar loss in April 2025, when Havildar Jhantu Ali Shaikh of 6 PARA (Special Forces) succumbed to injuries sustained during an anti-terror operation in Udhampur. Such incidents serve as stark reminders of the human cost borne by soldiers in the pursuit of peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army’s tribute to Havildar Ikbal Ali has drawn nationwide solidarity, with citizens joining in prayers for the departed soul and extending support to his family during this moment of grief.
