Lieutenant General Manish Erry has assumed command of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, succeeding Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, who concluded a distinguished three-year tenure.
During his tenure, Lt Gen Vats was credited with reinforcing DSSC’s reputation for academic excellence, expanding joint training initiatives, and strengthening international military cooperation with partner nations.
Lt Gen Erry, a highly decorated officer with 37 years of distinguished service, expressed gratitude to the civilian staff and the local community for their support. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing DSSC’s role as a premier institution of Professional Military Education (PME) and a hub of jointmanship in the Indian Armed Forces.

The Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, established in 1947, is one of the oldest and most respected military institutions in the world. Located in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu, DSSC trains middle-level officers of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as officers from friendly foreign nations.
The college’s mission is to impart advanced knowledge in the art and science of warfare, with a strong focus on joint operations, strategy, and leadership.
