In a ceremonial parade at the New Military Station in Prayagraj, Major General Amit Singh Sohal, Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Purva Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Sub Area.
An alumnus of the Corps of Engineers, Major General Sohal was commissioned in December 1990. Over the course of his career, he has commanded in both the South Western and Eastern theatres, and served with distinction on a United Nations Mission in Lebanon, adding valuable international experience to his professional portfolio.
Addressing troops during the ceremony, the General emphasized professionalism, integrity, and dedication as guiding principles for the formation under his command. His leadership is expected to boost operational preparedness, administrative efficiency, and veteran welfare in the strategically important region.
The Corps of Engineers, one of the oldest arms of the Indian Army, has a long legacy of combat support and engineering excellence. Major General Sohalโs appointment further strengthens Prayagrajโs status as a significant military hub.

Earlier, Prayagraj hosted the Northern Command Investiture Ceremony in March 2024, where soldiers were felicitated for gallantry and distinguished service, reaffirming the regionโs enduring contribution to Indiaโs defense framework.
