Lieutenant Kashish Methwaniโs remarkable journey from beauty pageants to the Indian Army reflects an inspiring blend of ambition, intellect, and service to the nation. Born on January 9, 2001, in Ulhasnagar, Mumbai, into a Sindhi family that valued education and resilience, she grew up imbibing discipline and adaptability while living in cities like Shillong, Delhi, Pune, and Bangalore.
Her father, Dr. Gurmukh Das, served as a scientist and later as a senior official in the Directorate General of Quality Assurance, while her mother, Shobha, was a teacher at Army Public School, Ghorpadi. Her elder sister, Shagufta, an engineer, provided encouragement that helped Kashish pursue diverse ambitions. From an early age, she immersed herself in Bharatanatyam, tabla, debates, academics, and sports, excelling as a national-level pistol shooter and basketball player. During the 2020 lockdown, she launched an NGO called Critical Cause to promote plasma, blood, and organ donation, highlighting her compassion and leadership at just 19.
Her tryst with pageantry began in childhood and matured into professional achievements. She was crowned Glamanand Supermodel India in 2022 and Miss International India in 2023, using her platform to advocate for womenโs empowerment and mental resilience. Despite challenges like licensing hurdles that limited her international participation, she turned setbacks into opportunities. In her 2023 TEDxXIE talk, โA Change in the Mindset is All You Need,โ she spoke about self-belief, overcoming imposter syndrome, and embracing multiple passions, while her family, initially new to the world of pageantry, offered steadfast support.
Academically gifted, Kashish pursued an MSc in Biotechnology from Savitribai Phule Pune University and worked on a Neuroscience thesis at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, focusing on gamma brain waves. Though offered a PhD abroad, she chose to dedicate herself to the Armed Forces. Her commitment was deepened during her NCC Air Wing tenure, where she marched in the 2021 Republic Day Parade and won the All India Best Cadet Trophy from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Inspired by this, she prepared for the Combined Defence Services Examination, securing All India Rank 2 in 2024 and opting for the Army Air Defence regiment, reflecting her technical prowess and determination.
At the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, she excelled in academics, leadership, and endurance, winning medals in shooting and physical activities while serving in key roles. Her perseverance culminated on September 6, 2025, when she was commissioned as Lieutenant Kashish Methwani, one of the rare Miss India titleholders to join the Indian Army. The moment was a proud and emotional milestone for her family.
Her life is a testament to the harmony of beauty, intellect, and courage. From founding an NGO during the pandemic to excelling in academia, turning down international opportunities, and donning the olive green uniform, she has consistently chosen purpose over convention.
Her story stands as an inspiration for the youth, especially women, to embrace versatility without fear of labels. As she embarks on her service in the Army Air Defence, Lieutenant Kashish Methwani symbolizes resilience, ambition, and pride, leaving behind a legacy that encourages others to dream fearlessly and serve selflessly.
