Two Army personnel—a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and an Agniveer—lost their lives in separate tragic incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to Army officials, Subedar (Operator) Sajeesh K, a resident of Kerala, died after a fatal fall during an operation on Friday evening. The JCO was leading a search party in the Seri Mastan area of Behramgalla when he lost balance while negotiating a steep slope and fell into a deep gorge. Troops immediately launched a rescue operation, but he had succumbed to injuries on the spot.
After completing legal and medical procedures, the soldier’s mortal remains were sent to his hometown.
The White Knight Corps paid homage to the fallen JCO, stating,
“General Officer Commanding White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Subedar (Operator) Sajeesh K, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol on Nov 21. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”
In a separate incident in the Mendhar sector, an Agniveer died on Saturday after he was struck by a bullet fired from his own service rifle while on duty at a forward post. Officials said the soldier died instantly.
Authorities are investigating whether the firearm discharged accidentally or if it was a case of suicide.
Both incidents have cast a shadow over the region, where the Army continues to maintain heightened operational readiness.
