The Judge Advocate Basic Course successfully concluded at the Institute of Military Law (IML), New Delhi, on December 30, marking another milestone in professional legal training within the Armed Forces.
The 12-week course witnessed participation from officers of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Departments of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard, along with five officers from friendly foreign countries—Cameroon, Maldives, Nepal, and Tanzania.
During the course, officers were trained in the nuances of Military Law and Allied Laws, equipping them with the legal acumen required to handle disciplinary, administrative, and operational legal matters in diverse service environments. The programme emphasised jointmanship, comparative military jurisprudence, and practical application of law in operational contexts.
The Valedictory Ceremony was attended by Justice C Hari Shankar, Judge of the Delhi High Court, along with the Judge Advocate General, Indian Army. Addressing the officers, the dignitaries underscored the critical role of military legal professionals in upholding discipline, justice, and the rule of law within the Armed Forces.
Meritorious officers, including participants from friendly foreign countries, were presented with awards in recognition of their outstanding academic performance and professional conduct during the course.
The successful conduct of the Judge Advocate Basic Course once again highlighted the Institute of Military Law’s pivotal role in fostering legal excellence, international military cooperation, and professional competence among armed forces legal officers, reinforcing India’s standing as a hub for advanced military legal education.
