Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, visited the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) at Kohima, Nagaland, on March 6, 2026, to review operational preparedness and troop welfare initiatives.

During the visit, the Director General was briefed on the prevailing security situation, operational readiness and ongoing welfare measures for personnel deployed in the region. The briefing highlighted the force’s role in maintaining peace, stability and security across the northeastern region.
Lt Gen Lakhera also interacted with personnel of all ranks, appreciating their dedication, professionalism and commitment in carrying out operational responsibilities in challenging environments.

Emphasising the importance of community engagement, the DG underscored the need for strong synergy between security forces and the local population, which remains essential for sustaining long-term peace and stability in the region.
As part of initiatives aimed at enhancing troop welfare, Lt Gen Lakhera inaugurated a new Sports Complex at Kohima Garrison. The facility has been established for use by all ranks and is expected to promote physical fitness, discipline and sportsmanship among troops.

The visit reaffirmed the Assam Rifles’ commitment to operational excellence and the well-being of its personnel, while continuing its role as a key security force in the Northeast.
