In a major boost to indigenous defence capabilities, the Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹1,950 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for the procurement of two advanced Mountain Radars for the Indian Air Force.
The contract, signed under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, reinforces the government’s push towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India in defence production.
Indigenous Technology Backbone
The Mountain Radars have been:
- Designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment under Defence Research and Development Organisation
- To be manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited
These radars are tailored for deployment in high-altitude and mountainous terrain, enhancing surveillance and early warning capabilities.
