The Delhi Police has arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged assault on a serving Indian Army Brigadier and his family in Vasant Enclave.
The accused have been identified as Satender alias Sonu (49), a director of an aviation firm, and Sanjay Sharma (56), a local dhaba owner. Both residents of Mehram Nagar were taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Incident and Allegations
The incident reportedly took place on April 11 around 10 PM, when the officer’s family objected to two men allegedly consuming alcohol inside a car parked near their residence. The situation escalated after the accused allegedly called additional individuals to the spot.
According to the complaint, a group of 7–8 men assaulted the Brigadier and his son, a 23-year-old IIT-Delhi graduate, while also misbehaving with the officer’s wife.
Police Response Under Scrutiny
The family has alleged that despite a PCR vehicle reaching the scene, no effective intervention was made by police personnel during the assault.
Officials confirmed that the offending vehicle has been seized, and both accused are being questioned to establish the sequence of events and individual roles.
A preliminary enquiry has also found lapses on the part of the investigating officer, who has been moved to District Lines pending further action.
Administration Takes Note
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu expressed concern over the incident and directed authorities to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.
He also instructed that adequate security be provided to the officer and his family, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
Investigation Continues
The case has raised concerns regarding public safety and police response protocols in the national capital. Authorities have stated that further investigation is underway, and additional arrests may follow based on findings.
