A delegation of the 8th Central Pay Commission, led by Pankaj Jain, IAS and Member Secretary of the Commission, visited Air Force Station Pune on May 3, 2026, to gain firsthand insight into the operational environment of the Indian Air Force.

The delegation was received by Air Commodore Satbir Singh Rai, Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Pune, and Air Commodore MK Anwer Shakir, Air Officer Commanding of 9 Base Repair Depot. Senior officers briefed the team on the high-risk nature of military flying operations and the challenges faced by aircrew and ground personnel.

The visit aimed to familiarise the Commission with the critical roles performed by various units, including Air Traffic Control (ATC), Rescue and Fire Fighting services, and maintenance teams, all of which are essential to ensuring flight safety and mission success.

During the tour, the delegation visited fighter and missile squadrons, radar units, and maintenance facilities. They were also briefed on periodic testing procedures, safety protocols, and operational readiness standards maintained by the Indian Air Force.
The visit provided valuable exposure to the complexities of air operations and is expected to contribute to informed decision-making by the Pay Commission regarding service conditions and compensation structures for defence personnel.
