Major General Manish Kumar, YSM, SM**, Additional Director General of Recruiting Zone (UP & Uttarakhand), called on Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Governor of Uttarakhand, at Lok Bhawan in Dehradun on May 13, 2026.
The institutional interaction focused on the core mandate, responsibilities, and functioning of the Recruiting Zone, along with key systemic improvements being introduced for the induction of youth into the Indian Army under the Agniveer scheme.

During the meeting, Maj Gen Kumar briefed the Governor on the organisational framework of ZRO (UP & Uttarakhand), which contributes the largest number of Agniveers to the Army.
The Governor appreciated the robust initiatives and extensive outreach programmes being undertaken to motivate youth to join the Armed Forces as Agniveers and serve the nation.
The Additional Director General also highlighted the Army’s commitment towards ensuring complete transparency, fairness, and efficiency in the conduct of recruitment rallies and selection procedures.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh assured full support and encouragement to future initiatives of the Recruiting Zone aimed at selecting capable and motivated youth for service in the Indian Army.
