Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.), presented the prestigious Governor’s Unit Citation to the 20th Battalion, Assam Rifles, in recognition of its distinguished service, valour and unwavering commitment to the nation and the people of Mizoram.
The honour was conferred during an Investiture Ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan, where the Governor commended the battalion for its exemplary operational performance during its deployment in the state.

In his address, the Governor highlighted the battalion’s proactive role in securing the Indo-Myanmar border amid complex security challenges. He praised its effective coordination with security and civil agencies in curbing narcotics smuggling, illegal cross-border activities and other transnational threats, while maintaining a high standard of operational readiness.
General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh also lauded the battalion for fostering strong ties with local communities through various Civic Action Programmes, describing the Assam Rifles as the “Sentinels of the North East” and “Friends of the Hills.” He noted that the unit’s initiatives strengthened civil-military relations and reflected the force’s enduring ethos of Seva, Suraksha and Bandhutva (Service, Security and Fraternity).

Expressing confidence in the battalion’s continued legacy of dedicated service, the Governor urged all ranks to uphold the proud traditions and reputation of the Assam Rifles in safeguarding the nation’s frontiers and serving local communities.
The ceremony was attended by Brigadier Puspendar Sorayan, Deputy Inspector General, 23 Sector Assam Rifles; Shri Krashnendra Singh, Chief Engineer, Pushpak; Colonel Jaswinder Singh, SM, Commandant, 20th Battalion Assam Rifles; along with senior officers and personnel of the force.

The 20th Battalion Assam Rifles was deployed under 23 Sector Headquarters Assam Rifles, Aizawl, and was stationed at Lunglawn, Lunglei, from 12 November 2023 to 19 March 2026, during which it made significant contributions to border security, counter-smuggling operations and community outreach across the region.
The Governor’s Unit Citation stands as a testament to the battalion’s operational excellence, professionalism and dedicated service in strengthening security and fostering peace and development in Mizoram.
