Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, visited an Assam Rifles formation in Mizoram to review its operational readiness and assess the prevailing security dynamics along the Indo-Myanmar border.
During the visit, Lt Gen Kalia received a comprehensive briefing on the formation’s operational preparedness, border management measures and the evolving security situation in the region. The review focused on strengthening border defence mechanisms and maintaining a high level of operational readiness to address emerging challenges.
Senior commanders apprised the GOC of the formation’s recent operational achievements, including the recovery of warlike stores and the successful conduct of anti-narcotics operations aimed at curbing cross-border smuggling and illegal activities.

The briefing also highlighted the Assam Rifles’ continued efforts in securing the international border through robust surveillance, coordinated operations and sustained vigilance. Emphasis was placed on maintaining seamless operational effectiveness while responding to the complex security environment along the Indo-Myanmar frontier.
In addition to operational matters, Lt Gen Kalia reviewed various civic action programmes undertaken by the formation to strengthen engagement with local communities. These initiatives are aimed at promoting development, fostering trust and contributing to long-term peace and stability in the region.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and dedication, the Corps Commander appreciated their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders while simultaneously supporting initiatives that enhance the well-being of local communities.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining the highest standards of operational preparedness, inter-agency coordination and people-centric approaches to effectively address security challenges in the Northeast.

The visit reaffirmed the Indian Army and Assam Rifles’ commitment to ensuring a secure border environment, countering transnational threats and contributing to peace, stability and nation-building through sustained operational excellence and community outreach.
