Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, visited the Drone Training Node at Jalukie in Nagaland’s Peren District on 24 June 2026 to review the force’s efforts in integrating emerging technologies into training and operational preparedness.
The visit underscored Assam Rifles’ commitment to leveraging innovation and modern technological solutions to enhance operational effectiveness and address evolving security challenges in the region.

During the visit, Lt Gen Lakhera reviewed various aspects of drone training being conducted at the facility and was briefed on initiatives aimed at developing specialised capabilities in the employment of unmanned aerial systems. The training node plays an important role in equipping personnel with the skills required to effectively utilise drone technology for surveillance, reconnaissance and operational support missions.
The Director General also assessed the in-house fabrication capabilities developed at the training node, which reflect Assam Rifles’ growing focus on indigenous innovation and self-reliance in defence technologies. These initiatives are designed to develop customised solutions tailored to operational requirements while reducing dependence on external resources.

Officials highlighted how locally developed systems and technical innovations are contributing to enhanced field capabilities and supporting the force’s operational objectives in challenging environments.
Lt Gen Lakhera appreciated the efforts of personnel involved in establishing and advancing the facility, noting that innovation-driven training and indigenous technological development are critical components of modern military preparedness.
The visit reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ emphasis on fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence and self-reliance, aligned with the broader national vision of strengthening indigenous defence capabilities.
