Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, visited the Jalukie Battalion in Peren district, Nagaland, on 24 June 2026 to review the unit’s operational preparedness and overall functioning.
During the visit, the Director General received a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security situation, operational deployments and measures undertaken to maintain a high state of readiness in the region. The review focused on strengthening operational effectiveness and ensuring sustained preparedness to address evolving security challenges.

Lt Gen Lakhera also interacted with officers and troops, appreciating their dedication and commitment to maintaining peace and security in Nagaland. He commended all ranks for their professionalism, operational excellence and unwavering devotion to duty while serving in a challenging operational environment.
Recognising exceptional performance, the Director General presented On-the-Spot Commendation Cards to three soldiers for their exemplary service and outstanding devotion to duty. The awards acknowledged their professionalism and significant contributions towards operational effectiveness.

Addressing the troops, Lt Gen Lakhera emphasised the importance of maintaining constant vigilance, pursuing continuous training and enhancing operational capabilities to remain prepared for future challenges. He also highlighted the critical role of civil-military cooperation and community engagement in fostering lasting peace, stability and development in the region.
The Director General underscored that strong partnerships with local communities, combined with sustained operational readiness, remain key to supporting long-term security and nation-building efforts in the Northeast.

Officials noted that the visit reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ commitment to maintaining high standards of operational preparedness while promoting a people-centric approach to security and development.
