Major Bhartendu Negi Named Overall Best Student at MCEME’s 109th Convocation

Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney presides over the ceremony as graduating officers and international participants are honoured for academic excellence and innovation.

The Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME), Secunderabad, conducted its 109th Convocation Ceremony on 27 June 2026, awarding Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degrees to 32 officers of the Degree Engineering (DE-106) Course and 13 officers of the Technical Entry Scheme (TES-44) Course, including four officers from Friendly Foreign Countries.

Lt Gen Varshney Giving Award

The degrees were conferred by Lieutenant General Neeraj Varshney, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, MCEME and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME), who congratulated the graduating officers on successfully completing a significant milestone in their professional and technical development.

Recognising academic excellence, Major Bhartendu Negi was adjudged the Overall Best Student of the DE-106 Course and received the prestigious DGEME Trophy, DGEME Gold Medal and the GOC-in-C ARTRAC Book Prize. Captain Prabhat Chandra and Captain Gautam, along with Captain Reshiv Kashyap, were awarded the Commandant’s Silver Medal for securing top positions in the Mechanical and Electronics streams.

In the TES-44 Course, Lieutenant Sahib Singh was declared the Overall Best Student, receiving the GOC-in-C ARTRAC Trophy, Book Prize and the DGEME Gold Medal. Lieutenant Gem Phub of the Royal Bhutan Army and Lieutenant Anuj Vashisht received the Commandant’s Silver Medal for topping the Mechanical and Electronics streams, respectively.

Addressing the graduating officers, Lt Gen Varshney encouraged them to pursue lifelong learning, professional excellence and innovative thinking. Drawing inspiration from the writings of Marcus Cicero, Carl Gustav Jacobi, St. Augustine, Munshi Premchand and Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, he emphasised the importance of adaptability, perseverance, resilience and integrity in military leadership. He urged the young officers to challenge conventional thinking, embrace change and uphold the values and ethos of the Indian Army throughout their careers.

As part of the convocation, MCEME also organised an exhibition showcasing innovative technology projects developed by the graduating officers. Among the highlights, the “Acoustics-Based Gun Shot Localisation & Detection System with Map Overlay” was adjudged the Best Project in the DE-106 Course, while the “AI-Powered Offline Semantic Search Engine” emerged as the Best Project in the TES-44 Course.

The ceremony underscored MCEME’s continued commitment to developing technologically proficient military leaders while promoting innovation and indigenous defence technologies in support of the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
