Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of the Naval Staff, visited the Naval War College, Goa, on August 24, 2026, and addressed officers attending the 39th Naval Higher Command Course and the maiden Foreign Higher Command Course.
During his interaction with the participants, the Chief of the Naval Staff highlighted the Indian Navy’s unified focus on ensuring national security and safeguarding India’s maritime interests. He emphasised that the Navy is undergoing a continuous and deliberate transformation to remain prepared for an evolving maritime security environment.
The CNS stressed the importance of preparing future naval leaders to understand emerging operational challenges and respond effectively to the changing character of warfare. He urged the officers to maintain a strong focus on their core responsibilities while simultaneously developing capabilities required for future operations.
Admiral Krishna Swaminathan outlined key leadership priorities for the officers, urging them to “Focus on Core, Train for Future, Fight Integrated, Lead by Example, and be Outcome Oriented.”
The emphasis on integrated operations reflected the growing importance of jointness and coordinated employment of capabilities in contemporary warfare. The officers were encouraged to develop a broader operational perspective and strengthen their ability to work effectively across domains and services.
The CNS also stressed the importance of leading by example, highlighting the role of professional competence, integrity and personal conduct in shaping effective military leadership.
The maiden Foreign Higher Command Course added an international dimension to the engagement, providing an opportunity for participating foreign officers to exchange perspectives and gain insights into India’s maritime security outlook and professional military education.
The interaction at the Naval War College reaffirmed the institution’s role in preparing senior military officers for higher command responsibilities and developing strategic perspectives on maritime security.
Admiral Krishna Swaminathan’s engagement with the two courses underscored the Indian Navy’s emphasis on developing future-ready leaders capable of combining operational expertise, strategic thinking, integrated warfighting and decisive leadership in support of national maritime interests.
