Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, met Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Central Command, during a courtesy call at Lok Bhavan.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both senior military leaders to exchange views on issues of strategic importance, particularly Uttarakhand’s critical role in India’s national security architecture. Given the state’s long international borders and its significance in the Himalayan region, discussions focused on the evolving security environment and the importance of maintaining robust defence preparedness.

The two leaders also deliberated on the changing national security landscape, including emerging strategic challenges and the need for continued coordination between civil administration and the Armed Forces to strengthen overall security and resilience.
A key area of discussion was the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of ensuring comprehensive support for veterans through welfare initiatives, improved access to services and continued recognition of their invaluable contributions to the nation. They also discussed the need to strengthen measures aimed at enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the veteran community.

The interaction reflected a shared commitment to safeguarding national interests while ensuring that the concerns of ex-servicemen remain a priority. Uttarakhand, which has one of the highest representations of serving and retired Armed Forces personnel in the country, continues to play a vital role in India’s military tradition and defence preparedness.
The courtesy meeting underscored the close relationship between the state administration and the Armed Forces, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation in matters concerning national security, regional development and veteran welfare. It also reaffirmed the collective resolve to strengthen India’s security framework while honouring the service and sacrifices of its military personnel and veterans.
