Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir), September 23, 2026: A routine liquor seizure by Anantnag Police has become an unexpected social media talking point after a photograph of the two apprehended men circulated widely for their unusually cheerful expressions.
Personnel from Police Post Dialgam intercepted the pair during naka checking at Bondialgam Crossing in Anantnag district. Police recovered 21 bottles of liquor and took the two men into custody. An FIR numbered 320/2026 was registered at Police Station Anantnag under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act. Investigation is underway to establish further details and possible linkages.
Anantnag Police posted the details on its official X account on 22 September 2026, together with a photograph of the two men standing side by side and holding placards that display the FIR number, the relevant legal provision and the police station. Instead of appearing tense or concerned, both men look directly at the camera and smile broadly. The original post has attracted more than 8.8 lakh views.
The contrast between a standard enforcement update and the men’s relaxed demeanour prompted an immediate flood of comments, jokes and memes. Users described them as “the happiest guys I have seen in a photograph recently,” speculated that “a few of the seized bottles may be inside of them,” and joked that they looked as though they were posing for a movie audition or a wedding photograph. Others remarked on Anantnag’s “happiness index” or suggested the photographer had simply asked them to smile.
A police official later explained the expressions. The two men initially appeared visibly tense when asked to pose. Officers then requested that they smile for the camera; they complied, producing the images that subsequently went viral.
Police have reiterated their commitment to strict action against illegal activities and continued enforcement of the Excise Act across the district. The investigation remains in progress.
