Rajouri / Jammu, 4 September 2026: An Indian Army soldier died on Friday after falling from a forward post along the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The deceased has been identified as Lance Naik Rituk Choudhary, 26, a resident of Uklada village in Tapi district of Gujarat.
Sources said Lance Naik Choudhary fell from the post towards a downhill ridge while deployed at the forward location. He was evacuated to the Military Hospital (MI) Room at Rumlidhara, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Legal formalities are under way. Officials said his mortal remains will be handed over to his legal heirs after those procedures are completed.
The incident was reported by multiple independent desks citing official sources and the news agency KNO. Rising Kashmir, Kashmir Observer and Janta Serishta carried matching accounts of the named fatality, the location and the sequence of evacuation.
Some later reports described the fall as accidental and said authorities had begun examining the circumstances. An official statement from the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) or the Press Information Bureau had not been issued at the time of writing.
Forward posts in the Nowshera sector sit on steep, broken ground along the LoC, where troops remain deployed throughout the year. The available official account does not attribute the death to enemy firing or an encounter. It records a line-of-duty fatality at a forward post after a fall.
Further details, including unit particulars and the schedule for the last rites in Gujarat, are expected after the completion of official formalities.
