Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged in four successful mountaineering expeditions conducted by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
Among the successful expeditions was the Mount Aconcagua expedition jointly conducted by NIM and the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS), Pahalgam. The Chief Minister congratulated the mountaineers on the successful completion of their expeditions and commended their courage, discipline, technical proficiency and team spirit in challenging high-altitude mountainous conditions.
Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the achievements of the mountaineers would inspire the youth of Uttarakhand as well as the country to engage in adventure activities. He also highlighted the role of NIM in mountaineering, adventure sports, youth development and high Himalayan training.
The Chief Minister said that NIM has established a significant identity in the country and the state in these fields. He noted that, along with providing high-level training to youth for mountaineering and adventure activities, the institute is also fostering courage, leadership, discipline and the ability to face difficult circumstances.
The joint NIM and JIM&WS expedition to Mount Aconcagua in Argentina was led by Colonel Hem Chandra Singh. Mount Aconcagua has an elevation of 6,961 metres.
The six-member joint expedition team successfully summited Mount Aconcagua on February 22, 2026. The expedition had earlier been flagged off by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh from South Block in New Delhi.
The successful Aconcagua expedition was among the four mountaineering expeditions conducted by NIM that were flagged in by the Chief Minister at his Camp Office. The joint participation of NIM and JIM&WS brought together the two institutes for the expedition to Mount Aconcagua.
Another major expedition was the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering’s Nun-Kun Expedition 2026. The expedition was led by the institute’s Principal, Colonel S.S. Rajpurohit.
The expedition team successfully summited the 7,077-metre peak of Mount Kun on August 15, 2026. The summit was achieved on Independence Day, making the accomplishment particularly special for the expedition team.
The team continued the Nun-Kun expedition and successfully summited the 5,908-metre peak of Mount Delta-41 on August 26, 2026.
The expedition team then successfully summited the 7,135-metre peak of Mount Nun on August 31, 2026. With these successful summit attempts, the team accomplished the feat of summiting three peaks of the Nun-Kun mountain range during a single expedition.
The successful completion of the three peaks during the Nun-Kun expedition added to the achievements of NIM’s mountaineering activities. The expedition involved successful summits of Mount Kun, Mount Delta-41 and Mount Nun during the same expedition.
While congratulating the expedition members, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami commended their courage and discipline in challenging high-altitude mountainous conditions. He also appreciated their technical proficiency and team spirit.
The Chief Minister extended best wishes to all the expedition members and said that Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions offer immense possibilities in the fields of mountaineering and adventure tourism.
Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that achievements by mountaineers can inspire the youth to connect with adventure sports. He also said that such achievements strengthen Uttarakhand’s identity at the national and international levels.
The Chief Minister highlighted NIM’s contribution to youth development and high Himalayan training. He said that the institute provides high-level training to youth for mountaineering and adventure activities while also fostering qualities such as courage, leadership and discipline.
The ability to face difficult circumstances was also highlighted as an important quality being fostered through the institute’s training. The Chief Minister linked the institute’s work in mountaineering and adventure activities with youth development and training for high Himalayan conditions.
The Mount Aconcagua expedition and the Nun-Kun Expedition 2026 were among the successful mountaineering activities recognised during the flag-in ceremony at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
The Mount Aconcagua expedition was jointly conducted by NIM Uttarkashi and JIM&WS Pahalgam under the leadership of Colonel Hem Chandra Singh. The six-member team successfully reached the summit of the 6,961-metre Mount Aconcagua on February 22, 2026.
The Nun-Kun Expedition 2026 was led by NIM Principal Colonel S.S. Rajpurohit. The team successfully summited Mount Kun at 7,077 metres on August 15, Mount Delta-41 at 5,908 metres on August 26, and Mount Nun at 7,135 metres on August 31, 2026.
The achievements were recognised by the Chief Minister during the flag-in ceremony, where he congratulated the mountaineers and commended their performance in challenging high-altitude conditions.
On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary for Sports and Youth Welfare Shri Amit Kumar Sinha, NIM Principal Colonel S.S. Rajpurohit, JIM&WS Pahalgam Principal Colonel Hem Chandra Singh and Captain G. Santosh Kumar were present along with NIM officials and members of various mountaineering expeditions.
The ceremony highlighted the successful mountaineering activities undertaken by NIM Uttarkashi and the joint expedition with JIM&WS Pahalgam. The successful summits and expeditions were recognised for demonstrating courage, discipline, technical proficiency and team spirit in high-altitude mountainous conditions.
The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions provide significant possibilities for mountaineering and adventure tourism. He stated that achievements by mountaineers can encourage young people to participate in adventure activities and contribute to strengthening Uttarakhand’s identity at the national and international levels.
The successful expeditions also highlighted the role of NIM in mountaineering, adventure sports, youth development and high Himalayan training, with the institute continuing to provide training in mountaineering and adventure activities while fostering courage, leadership, discipline and the ability to face difficult circumstances.
