Born in Darbhanga, Bihar, Officer Cadet Raghvendra Jha represents a journey shaped by dedication, resilience and an enduring commitment to serving the nation. Inspired from an early age by the military legacy of his grandfather, father and uncle, Jha developed a strong aspiration to wear the olive-green uniform and dedicate his career to national service.
His journey towards becoming an Army officer, however, was not a conventional one. Before entering the officer training environment at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya, Jha had already gained valuable experience in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), serving as a Sub-Inspector in challenging operational environments. His transition from the CRPF to the Indian Army reflects a sustained desire to assume greater responsibility as a military leader.
An accomplished National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet and a regional-level sportsperson, Jha developed discipline, teamwork and competitive spirit during his formative years. His association with the NCC played an important role in introducing him to the armed forces and nurturing his early ambition of serving the country in uniform.
Before joining the security forces, Jha began his professional career as a Java Developer. The transition from the technology sector to a demanding operational career in the CRPF marked a significant change in professional direction. In 2023, he joined the CRPF as a Sub-Inspector, taking his first major step towards a career dedicated to national security.
His service in the CRPF exposed him to demanding operational environments. He served in Naxal-affected areas of Odisha as well as in the insurgency environment of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. These assignments provided him with direct operational exposure and an understanding of the challenges faced by security personnel operating in difficult and sensitive areas.
His performance during his CRPF career earned him recognition, with Jha receiving the prestigious DG CRPF Commendation Card in 2025. The recognition marked an important achievement during his service and reflected his contribution and performance in the force.
Beyond his operational responsibilities, Jha also maintained a strong association with sports during his CRPF service. He represented the force in various sporting events and earned several accolades in volleyball competitions. He successfully cleared the SSB and earned the opportunity to undergo officer training at OTA Gaya. For him, reaching the academy represented the culmination of years of aspiration, preparation and service experience, while also marking the beginning of a new phase in his military journey.
At OTA Gaya, Jha has continued to demonstrate the qualities that shaped his earlier career. He took on the responsibility of captaining the academy volleyball team and distinguished himself across multiple team sports. His participation and leadership in sports reflected his continued commitment to teamwork and his ability to motivate and work alongside fellow cadets.
Sports have remained a consistent element throughout Jha’s journey. From representing the CRPF in volleyball competitions to captaining the OTA Gaya volleyball team, his sporting achievements have provided a parallel demonstration of leadership, discipline and team spirit.
His journey also highlights the value of prior operational experience in shaping future military leaders. Having served as a CRPF Sub-Inspector in challenging environments before entering officer training, Jha brings with him an understanding of operational realities that complements the leadership and military training being imparted at OTA Gaya.
