The occasion marked eight decades since the formation of the headquarters, which traces its origins to its raising at Tuensang in Nagaland in 1947. Over the decades, the formation has remained associated with the Assam Rifles’ enduring role in safeguarding India’s frontiers and contributing to security and stability in the Northeast.

The Raising Day celebrations reflected the military traditions and ethos of the force and featured a series of ceremonial and commemorative events. The programme commenced with a sacred Mandir Parade, providing an opportunity for serving personnel to seek blessings and reaffirm their commitment to the values of duty, discipline and service.

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was subsequently held at the Sector War Memorial. The ceremony paid tribute to personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and served as a poignant reminder of the courage and dedication that have shaped the formation’s history.

The war memorial ceremony also reflected the importance attached by the Assam Rifles to remembering its fallen personnel. Their sacrifices remain an enduring source of inspiration for serving troops and reinforce the tradition of placing duty to the nation above personal considerations.

The celebrations also included an interactive Sainik Sammelan, providing an opportunity for personnel to interact collectively and reflect on the formation’s achievements, responsibilities and future challenges. Such interactions form an important part of military leadership, strengthening communication, cohesion and a shared sense of purpose among the ranks.

The Sainik Sammelan also highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism and readiness as the security environment in the Northeast continues to evolve. Personnel were reminded of the formation’s long-standing commitment to national security and the welfare of the communities in which it operates.

The celebrations concluded with the traditional Bada Khana, a long-standing military tradition that brings personnel together in an informal setting and reinforces camaraderie and regimental spirit. The gathering provided an opportunity for officers and troops to come together and celebrate the milestone collectively.

The 80th Raising Day was therefore not merely a commemoration of the passage of eight decades but also a reaffirmation of the values that have guided the formation since its raising. The occasion brought together remembrance, military tradition, fellowship and a renewed commitment to service.

The Assam Rifles, one of India’s oldest paramilitary forces, has historically played an important role in frontier security and counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast. Its personnel have operated in some of the country’s most challenging terrain and continue to contribute to security and stability in the region.

For Headquarters 9 Sector Assam Rifles, the milestone represents a legacy built through decades of service, sacrifice and operational commitment. From its origins in Tuensang in 1947 to its continuing responsibilities in Manipur and the wider Northeast, the formation’s journey reflects the broader story of the Assam Rifles’ contribution to India’s national security.

As the formation marked eight decades of service, the celebrations served as both a tribute to those who came before and a reminder of the responsibilities that continue to lie ahead. The spirit of the occasion was centred on steadfast commitment to the nation, protection of India’s frontiers and continued service to the people of the Northeast.
