The webinar brought together representatives from the Indian Army, Government agencies, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Defence Estates Organisation, Military Engineer Services and City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities. The engagement focused on building greater coordination among stakeholders and addressing issues that could influence the implementation of PNG infrastructure across Army stations.

As part of the transition plan, the Indian Army intends to convert 41 Army Stations to PNG during Financial Year 2026–27, with the initiative subsequently planned for expansion to other feasible establishments. The transition is aligned with the Government of India’s broader vision of promoting a gas-based economy and encouraging more efficient and sustainable energy use.

A key highlight of the webinar was the release of the Indian Army PNG Guide. The guide provides a common reference framework covering administrative, technical, safety and implementation requirements associated with the transition to PNG. It is intended to facilitate standardised planning and execution across formations and establishments.

The discussions during the webinar covered a wide range of issues, including policy and regulatory requirements, statutory clearances, land-related matters, works and infrastructure requirements, technical considerations, safety protocols, accounting procedures and reimbursement mechanisms.

Stakeholders also discussed the preparedness of City Gas Distribution entities, station-level implementation experiences and safety requirements associated with the adoption and operation of PNG systems. The exchange of practical experiences was aimed at identifying challenges and developing effective solutions for smooth implementation at individual Army stations.

The transition to PNG is expected to contribute towards more efficient energy management while supporting the Indian Army’s broader efforts towards sustainability and responsible resource utilisation. The initiative also reflects the increasing integration of environmental considerations into infrastructure development and energy management across military establishments.

The webinar concluded with a reaffirmation of the Indian Army’s commitment to achieving a safe, efficient and sustainable transition to Piped Natural Gas across feasible establishments, while ensuring that operational requirements, safety standards and implementation considerations remain central to the process.
