Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla, PVSM, UYSM, YSM, SM, VSM, MGS IHQ of MoD (Army), visited Central Ordnance Depot (COD) Kanpur, highlighting the critical role of robust logistics and uninterrupted supply chains in maintaining the Indian Army’s operational readiness.
During the visit, Lt Gen Aujla emphasised that military preparedness begins well before troops reach the battlefront, with an efficient and resilient logistics network forming the backbone of sustained operations.
The interaction focused on strengthening indigenisation, enhancing domestic production capacity and maintaining stringent quality standards while ensuring that equipment and supplies meet the operational requirements of soldiers in the field.
Industry engagement was also highlighted as an important component of the Army’s efforts to develop a faster and more self-reliant defence logistics ecosystem. Greater cooperation with industry is expected to improve production capabilities, responsiveness to user requirements and post-sales support for equipment inducted into service.
The visit underlined the Army’s continuing push towards building supply chains capable of supporting operations without disruption, particularly as modern warfare places increasing demands on the rapid movement, maintenance and availability of military equipment and stores.
The emphasis on indigenous production and stronger industry participation is aligned with the broader objective of reducing dependence on external supply chains while improving the resilience and sustainability of the Army’s logistics network.
The message from COD Kanpur was clear: operational readiness depends not only on capabilities at the front but also on a logistics system that remains reliable, responsive and prepared to meet both present and future requirements.
