Lieutenant General H S Vandra, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Madhya Bharat Area and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals, visited Southern Star Signal Units in Pune from 27 to 28 August 2026, reviewing their operational preparedness, administrative functioning and ongoing modernisation initiatives.
During the two-day visit, the General Officer carried out a comprehensive review of key aspects concerning the Signal units, including manpower management, training preparedness, administrative efficiency and welfare measures instituted for troops and their families.
Particular emphasis was placed on modernisation initiatives being undertaken by the units as the Indian Army continues to strengthen its communication and information infrastructure to meet the requirements of an increasingly technology-driven operational environment.
As the Indian Army’s principal arm responsible for military communications, the Corps of Signals plays a crucial role in maintaining secure and reliable connectivity between formations and units during both peacetime and operational deployments. Its personnel operate and maintain sophisticated communication networks that are essential for command, control and battlefield coordination.

Lt Gen Vandra also interacted with troops during the visit and gained insights into their training, professional activities and efforts aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness.
Addressing the personnel, the General Officer commended their professionalism, innovative spirit and dedication towards strengthening operational readiness. He encouraged the troops to continue maintaining high professional standards while adapting to emerging technologies and evolving operational requirements.

The visit also provided an opportunity to assess welfare initiatives and measures designed to support personnel serving in the Signal units. Troop welfare, effective manpower utilisation and continuous professional training remain important components in sustaining the operational effectiveness of military formations.
Lt Gen Vandra’s interaction with the Southern Star Signal Units highlighted the importance of technological innovation and continuous training within the Corps of Signals, particularly as modern military operations become increasingly dependent on resilient, secure and rapidly deployable communication networks.

The visit concluded with an emphasis on maintaining operational readiness, accelerating modernisation and continuing to foster innovation among Signal personnel in support of the Indian Army’s evolving communication requirements.
