Lieutenant General Harsh Chhibber, Director General Information Systems (DG IS), visited Headquarters Central Command in Lucknow and interacted with Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command.
During the visit, Lt Gen Harsh Chhibber addressed officers of Headquarters Central Command and officers from formations through a hybrid mode on the theme “Digital and AI Transformation in the Indian Army”. The interaction focused on the growing importance of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in shaping the future battlefield.
Lt Gen Chhibber highlighted the transformative potential of emerging technologies in enhancing operational effectiveness and strengthening the speed and quality of military decision-making. He emphasised that the increasing availability of data, advanced digital systems and AI-enabled tools can significantly contribute to improved situational awareness and mission preparedness.
The DG IS also underlined the importance of information dominance in modern warfare. With battlefields becoming increasingly technology-driven and information-intensive, the ability to collect, process, analyse and effectively utilise information is becoming an important component of operational advantage.
The interaction further focused on the need for the Indian Army to embrace innovation and digitalisation across its operational and organisational domains. AI-enabled capabilities, emerging technologies and digitally integrated systems can support commanders and formations in responding more effectively to complex and rapidly evolving operational challenges.
The address also reinforced the importance of developing a technology-oriented mindset among personnel. Continuous adaptation, innovation and familiarisation with emerging technologies will remain essential as the character of warfare evolves and increasingly incorporates autonomous systems, data-driven decision-making and advanced digital networks.
