Chennai, September 3, 2026 — The Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, is set to hold its prestigious Passing Out Parade on September 5, 2026, marking the culmination of months of rigorous military training for Officer Cadets preparing to begin their careers as commissioned officers of the Indian Army.

Army Training Command (ARTRAC) has begun the countdown to the ceremony, describing the upcoming parade as the final stage in the transformation of trainees into military leaders. In its announcement, ARTRAC said the Officer Cadets are preparing to take the traditional “Antim Pag” the final step across the academy’s hallowed portals before assuming the responsibilities that come with wearing the stars of an Army officer.

The Passing Out Parade is among the most significant events in the calendar of OTA Chennai and represents the culmination of demanding military training designed to develop leadership, discipline, physical endurance, tactical competence and character among future officers.

On September 5, the Officer Cadets will march together for the final time at the academy, displaying the precision, discipline and military bearing developed during their training. For the cadets and their families, the occasion will mark the transition from life as trainees to the responsibilities of commissioned service in the Indian Army.

The parade traditionally includes immaculate drill, military music and ceremonial traditions associated with the commissioning of Army officers. Following the completion of the parade and related commissioning formalities, the newly commissioned officers will begin their journeys into different arms and services of the Indian Army.

OTA Chennai is one of the Indian Army’s premier officer-training establishments and is particularly associated with the training of officers for the Short Service Commission. The academy has also played an important role in the history of women officers in the Indian Armed Forces, with the first batch of women cadets entering OTA Chennai in 1992.

Last year’s Passing Out Parade, held on September 6, 2025, saw 155 Officer Cadets, including 25 women, commissioned into the Indian Army. Another 21 Officer Cadets, including 12 women, from nine friendly foreign countries successfully completed their training. The parade was reviewed by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh.

The 2025 ceremony was held at the historic Parameswaran Drill Square and was followed by the traditional Pipping Ceremony, during which the newly commissioned officers received the stars on their shoulders and formally embarked upon their military careers.

With the September 5, 2026 parade now approaching, anticipation is building at OTA Chennai as another batch of Officer Cadets prepares for one of the defining moments of their lives marching past the academy for the final time before stepping forward as leaders of the Indian Army. As ARTRAC put it while announcing the countdown, the stage is set for a display of “pride, precision” and the final step towards becoming military leaders.
