A 36-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed and three of his colleagues injured after a sand-laden lorry lost control and rammed into their vehicle on National Highway 163 in Mulugu district, Telangana, on Thursday morning (October 8, 2026). Two government employees travelling in a car behind were also injured.
The deceased has been identified as Muguram Ramakanth (also referred to as M. Ramakanth), a jawan attached to the CRPF’s 39th Battalion stationed in Wazeedu mandal of Mulugu district. He was a resident of Karimnagar district. The injured CRPF personnel have been named as Girish Kumar, Prem Prakash and Ram Jan Prasad (also reported as Ram Prasad).
According to Mulugu Superintendent of Police Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, the accident occurred around 10 a.m. near the Pasra (Pasara) Forest Check Post in Govindaraopet mandal on the Pasra–Tadvai stretch of NH-163 (Warangal–Eturunagaram). A lorry first collided with a DCM goods carrier/van in which the four CRPF jawans were travelling from Eturunagaram towards Mulugu. Ramakanth died on the spot.
The same lorry then rammed into a car travelling behind, injuring two employees of the Govindaraopet Mandal Parishad Development Office (MPDO)—identified in reports as Safiya (or Sd Sofiya, junior assistant) and Ramesh (or P. Ramesh, typist). The SP stated that the two government employees were out of danger.
Tadvai Sub-Inspector K. Jagadish told reporters that the jawans were travelling in the DCM vehicle when the speeding truck hit it, after which it struck the oncoming car. Police reached the scene, deployed an earth mover to clear the vehicles, and the crash caused a traffic jam stretching more than two kilometres.
Ramakanth’s body was shifted to Mulugu government hospital for postmortem, while the injured were taken to MGM Hospital in Warangal for treatment. A case has been registered and is under investigation.
Reports indicate the lorry was sand-laden and had lost control, with some accounts attributing the crash to overspeeding and rash driving. Further details on the precise cause and the status of the injured jawans remain awaited as the probe continues.
This incident underscores the risks faced by security personnel during routine movement on national highways in the region. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
